Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Working out? at ALL?

I hope I don't sound lazy.... but I barely find the time to sleep, eat or clean so I can't imagine a time when I can begin working out. I know I'd feel better starting this maybe every other day or so. Even once a week would be great right now. Baby naps but very lightly and doesn't sleep through the night so I can't use nap time. Unless I start working out at 11pm or midnight I don't see this happening yet for me. I'm looking into mommy and baby Yoga classes perhaps. But figured I'd ask you all..... Do you work out and how do you work that into your daily routine?

Re: Working out? at ALL?

  • I found a milf workout on pinterest that I do once in the morning and once at night. I do it with baby.

15 push ups (do them over baby and kiss him on the down)

25 sit ups each middle , side, side

40 jumping jacks (baby gets a kick out of this and thinks I'm funny)

    25 squats holding baby

Then do it all in reverse. Takes about 6-8 mins

I then do cardio on Fri/Sat/Sun while DH watches baby.

I have no energy during the week for cardio, wish I did.

I need to try to do this! Just wanted to let you know you are not alone.  Its so hard to find the time or the energy, but I know I should make the effort.  I feel lazy for not doing anything, but taking care of a baby is a full time job! I agree working out early am or late night is not my thing and naptimes dont always work with a light sleeper and bc I've always got something else to do.  Maybe I try the pp's workout with baby! Sounds quick and fun!

  • We have a dog so I have to walk him every afternoon. DS falls asleep in his stroller, and if it's not too cold and windy out we'll stay out for an hour or so.

Downside of this is that we don't have a really good at-home nap routine, and I would love to be able to carve out 15-20 minutes a day to do some work on my abs. I feel like that's the one part of my body that hasn't recovered from pregnancy and delivery.

  • Not sure where you live, we are in CT so right now it is basically not going to happen, but I walk with DS everyday probably about 2 miles.  I think walking is win win, you work out and it is great for LO to be outside and learning how important exercise is.

  • It's so hard to find the time!  I use my lunch hour a few days a week to go to the gym.  I work close enough to the gym that I can make it there, workout for 40 minutes and be back to work in time.  It's not much but it's what I can manage right now.

And I'm 6lbs lighter than I was pre pregnancy so I'm somewhat happy.  I would like to be a little more tone but it is what it is.

So happy for my BFPB Steff13914 and her new twins! Welcome to the world sweet babies:) Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

We are in CT as well..this morning it was 2 degrees...ridiculous! :)

I have an elliptical at home I use then on the weekend or a day where DH works from home I go to the gym. Our gym has a daycare, which I used with DD1 when she was a little older. I am not yet using it with DD2 bc she's still so little. But that's just my comfort level -- I see plenty of babies in there. Just be sure to check out the cleanliness and safety levels. GL! It's hard to get going, but if you can manage even a little, you'll feel good about it.

This is about what I do. I purchased an elliptical off amazon a while before I got pregnant...now it's getting some use. After needing new jeans finding out I'm a size 8 at american eagle, went into minor panic attack.

I found several similar workouts to this on Pinterest as well. I do different ones everyday to switch them up. Encorporating baby is great because they find it entertaining and holding them (like for squats) is like working with a medicine ball. DD laughs hysterically when I do jumping jacks too. I also do crunches with her sitting on my stomach and makes faces at her when I sit up.

  • DD and I go to a mommy/baby yoga class once a week. i love it, and so does DD. Its actually not too much yoga, we spend half the time sitting around talking with the other moms. Its a great support group though.

I have some workout dvds that are about 30 minutes long and i try to do them twice a week, while DD is in a good mood in her exersaucer. She loves to watch me do them, and jumps up and down : ) I also try to run twice a week while DH watches her, usually in the evenings when he gets home from work but before we eat dinner.

  • I do a deck of cards workout. I do about 10 mins at a time throughout the day. I get up to 30 mins on avg but my goal is 1 hour.

     1) Buy a deck of playing cards or download them on an app.

    2) Assign each suit an exercise (Diamonds=Pushups, Hearts=Situps, Spades=Squats, Clubs=Pullups)

    3) Flip 1 card at a time and perform the number of reps on that card (i.e. 8 of Spades, perform 8 squats. Jack=11,Queen=12,King=13,Ace=14, Joker=1 min. Break)

    4) Complete the deck.

    5) You?re done!

Some key points: Change up the exercises each time you do it. Don?t perform 2 days in a row, give your muscles time to heal. Have your friends do it with you!

  • You women are great! Thanks for all of the suggestions!
