Has your LO began holding its bottle? If so, what month?
My DS refuses to even put his hands on his bottle..lazy little thing!
He is doing good sitting, however he will still topple over from time to time and can not get to the sitting position himself. We have to sit him down. How is your LO doing?
Re: Holding bottle or sitting up?
We BF so I can't comment on the bottle from experience, but I have a friend whose baby would NOT hold her own bottle and still won't at a year! She plays with her hair with both hands while my friend holds the bottle. BUT she'll hold it for her grandma, no problem! My friend was worrying, but now she realizes her daughter is just lazy and prefers not to hold her own bottle when she doesn't have to haha!
I didn't even realize that holding their own bottle was something they are supposed to learn how to do until the pedi asked about it at today's appointment. DS will try to hold his bottle, but he can't keep it tipped up enough and winds up sucking air rather than formula. I'm wondering if this holding the bottle thing is more for babies who eat laying back. I've always held DS almost completely straight up to eat to help with his reflux.
As for sitting, DS can sit up on his own for several minutes at a time if he is really engaged in something. I still put a lot of pillows or a Boppy behind him b/c we have hardwood floors and he'll eventually crash over. He hasn't started getting into the sitting position on his own yet. Do they typically start doing this from their bellies or backs?
They can usually get into sitting once they start crawling. So from their bellies. DS crawls then he'll find something worth examining and sit up. So from hands and knees, he tucks a foot under him and kicks one leg out to the side, then pulls his torso up.
DD holds onto her own bottle some of the time, but she gets too distracted to hold it herself for a full feeding. She sits up very well, and can almost get herself to sitting from her belly. She is trying really hard to crawl, too.
DS never held his own bottle. Never even tried. Even so, he self-weaned at 10.5 months, held his own sippy, and was a self-feeder from an early age with utensils and finger foods. Some babies just like to relax with their milk
