Upcoming appointments: Sept 9th I have my glucose test!
How are you feeling: Good today! I had a couple days off work and really needed it to recharge.
Rants/Raves: I’m going to visit my husband at his job site for 5 days this Thursday and I’m SO excited to see him!
Questions: Anyone else super excited for fall fashion with these cute baby bumps!?
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? My husband made an engagement music playlist the day he proposed to me and every now and then he will play a song from it and without fail it makes so super happy because it brings me back to that magical day!
@tryingktogku That’s awesome you can see hubs! Enjoy time off and recharging!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: A coconut
Upcoming appointments: 8/18 Group virtual visit, 8/31 for tests (eek glucose) and next General OB checkup
How are you feeling: Pretty good! I’ve started letting myself have some coffee again (I was so grossed out by it all first tri) and even a small dose of caffeine is giving me life! Yesterday I reorganized our entire basement (unpacked boxes that had been stacked since we moved) and then single handed my set up our new outside couch. I think I probably overdid it, though, because my back is very unhappy today. I think maybe this is how my nesting is manifesting?
Rants/Raves: Rave for caffeine. Hell of a drug!
Questions: This morning my boobs hurt real bad - like lightening bolts were shooting up the sides of them. Does that mean milk production is starting?
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? My dog. I just can’t believe a little being exists that has that much unconditional love. He’s the most people-attached dog I’ve ever met and all he wants is for his humans to be happy. He’s an all star cuddler and really kicks it up when I’m feeling down.
@tryingktogku normally I’d say I’m super excited for fall fashion, but I have officially declared 2020 “the year of the yoga pants.” This week I DO have to start regularly wearing makeup and a nice top, as virtual Uni starts up!
@laurenspdx yay for coffee! Are you able to stomach it now? I don’t know what I would have done if it had to give it up. As for the noon pain, maybe. I had the same shooting pains early on in pregnancy and still throughout, also with DD. For sure I’ve got some milk started as I’ve already been leaking!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a hedgehog
Upcoming appointments: 24 week check soon
How are you feeling: I’m starting to slow up and really feel the extra weight now. It’s getting comical to watch me get up from the floor 😅
Rants/Raves: Classes officially start this week! (That’s a rant AND rave).
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? Being out in nature. I just love being out and away from things.
@jchpg Yes! I’m actually enjoying it again after 5 months haha. Just realized all three who have answered are 12/8 due dates - woohoo 12/8 crew! @tryingktogku
@laurenspdx omg yes I miss caffeine so much! I haven’t had ANY this whole pregnancy so I figure if I got half way I can go the whole way haha and I totally agree that four legged friends are almost always a source of joy when you’re feeling down!
@jchpg haha im with you in the yoga pants year but you can still wear cute cardigans and scarfs etc! I love fall it’s my fav to dress for!
@jbal918 My doctors office usually does a program where they have small group visits at the same time that everyone has their OB one-on-ones. Obviously that’s not possible with COVID so instead we have monthly hour group visits online with a midwife and other moms around the same due date. It’s pretty helpful!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Coconut
Upcoming appointments: Telehealth on Thursday
How are you feeling: Good! Although I'm noticing I'm tiring more quickly than normal
Rants/Raves: DH has been out of state doing storm restoration (he's a lineman) and I cannot believe the hatred on the company's instagram/twitter by people! These guys are working 18 hour shifts (with a 6 hour break to shower, eat and sleep) day after day after day to get the power back on. Luckily DH said everyone they've encountered has been super nice to them - he said last night the house next to where they were working brought the whole crew over burgers and hotdogs for dinner! It's nice to hear that there are still good people out there, and that the trolls hiding behind their keyboards don't represent the majority.
Questions: Nope
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? Walking around Homegoods
@laurenspdx - Wow that's so cool! I wish my office did something like that!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: box of dryer sheets
Upcoming appointments: Going to see the specialist this Thursday to check on the heart. Then a normal OB visit at the beginning of Sept.
How are you feeling:. Very tired. Not sure if it is pregnancy, depression/anxiety, or just boredom. I just want to sleep all day long. I wrote out a to-do list for today, so maybe that will help me get motivated. Also most things I eat right now make me want to throw up (but only when I am eating them). It isn't nausea as much as a strong gag reflex.
Rants/Raves: My husband has started cooking for me which has been nice. I think he is enjoying trying to cook new things with the few ingredients we have. Just nice change from how things normally are (which is even more pleasant in our groundhog day life right now).
Questions:. Anyone have some fun at home date ideas? Our 10 year anniversary is this week and just trying to think of some way to make it special. We were going to go somewhere but then thought better save the money if we would just hang out at the B&B and order takeout.
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? Right now it seems to be food. My husband came downstairs and I was in tears. He made me a grilled cheese and fruit. I also normally love dancing to 90s music or salsa music. The bump makes it a little hard now.
@tryingktogku. Yay for seeing DH soon! Enjoy your visit.
@laurenspdx. Yay for caffeine! I just gave it back up again and that is not helping the tired feeling! Trying lots of ice water and cold lemonade to see if that helps. Also I have some boxes over here that I could probably use your help with!! Hope you feel better soon.
@jchpg. I understand about trying to get off the floor. I feel like a turtle on my back. Also shoes are getting harder to lace up. I love your nature idea, just don't get to do it as often as I would like.
@jbal918. I feel like you wrote my mind between the appointment (mine is on Thursday) and the going crazy at home part. Except for the cat part. Ours is antisocial! Best of luck with your echo.
@feather_heather. Well I know a lot of my family is super grateful to your husband and his colleagues!
@feather_heather Sorry for your husband having to deal with jerks! I’m sure people are just projecting their frustration about the situation at whoever they can. It’s similar to being in customer service - it’s hard not to take it personally but ultimately people are just lashing out at whoever is closest. Glad to hear most people are nice in person!
@dobiemom11 Sounds like you’re in a tough spot. Hopefully some fun date night stuff will help take your mind off stress and anxiety. My dad has a saying “it’s only today,” as a reminder to just take things one day at a time. You don’t need to fix everything overnight. Celebrate the little wins. Hope you can feel better soon!
@feather_heather I’m glad the face to face interaction your DH gets is positive. I can’t imagine how hard his job most be. I think it’s easy for people to be mean and detached on social media, like they forget that we’re all real people behind the screens, so they tend to let it all out without thinking about the effects. I think when suddenly you see someone’s face, they remember social norms- at least in most cases.
@dobiemom11 I totally agree with food making me happy! But it’s also a love hate relationship for me.
DH and I have done stay at home dates, we really like to cook so we order extra special cuts of meat that normally we would not get or extra special ingredients. Then we cook together, have a nice meal with wine and watch a movie. I like it. You could also plan on getting dressed up to make it feel more special (for us PJs always win 😅). This is out the door now though, we’re just in survival mode trying to work full time, be full time parents and getting enough sleep. Any planned date would just end up with us going to sleep on the couch!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: looks like a it’s a banana again
Upcoming appointments: 8/26
How are you feeling: Much more normal! Love feeling all the kicks lately.
Rants/Raves: My oldest son starts kindergarten this week. Praying schools stay open
Questions:
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? i have a group of 3 friends that I’ve been best friends since pre school. We still talk every single day and hangout often. They are always there no matter what and definitely know how to make my day!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: baby bok choy
Upcoming appointments: 8/27 for 24-week and a U/S to check on my SCH
How are you feeling: pretty good! Some heartburn everyday but it’s tolerable. Feeling big! I think my feet are starting to swell when I walk/stand for too long.
Rants/Raves: Rants: the non-refundable glider we ordered was originally supposed to arrive end of Sep, and just was delayed to after Thanksgiving! Cutting it very close. I know we may not require it immediately but would just love for the nursery to be fully set up before we bring baby girl home! I’m hoping it comes early.
We still don’t have a name and we don’t talk about it since we don’t agree! I know we have lots of time but my planning side is feeling the itch to check this off the list!
Questions: how early is everyone planning to order and install car seats?
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up?
this sounds awful but presents or any surprise! Even little things, flowers, a random card or note. I just love presents - always have, always will. DH does not get me anything for my bday or Xmas (or other holidays) because he does not believe in giving gifts. this is a newish development in the past 2 years, and it is very sad, but you can’t make someone want to buy you gifts so I’ve just gotten used to it. But presents or surprises now feel extra rare & special when I do get them!
@laurenspdx coffee is one of the things I look forward to most days. :P Since I can't have a drink in the evenings, I look forward to that cup in the morning!
@jchpg My poor H winces every time I get up from sitting/laying because of how painful my pelvic/hips are when I do.
@feather_heather The same thing happened to our utilities crews last year during wildfire season. The poor lineman are just doing their job trying to get people their power back and they have to endure so much hate! I'm sorry your H has to deal with that, but happy he got to experience some kindness too!
@shelmcclel We still don't have a name yet either. I feel like boy names are so hard! We're reusing the same infant car seat from DD. I would say if you know which one you like, just keep an eye out for sales! And buy when on sale. Never too early to have.

Upcoming appointments: 8/27 for a general OB appt
How are you feeling: pretty good - some pelvic and lower back pain when I stand or crouch for long periods of time, but feeling more energy (or at least, more motivation) to do things. My sleep quality is starting to tank though
Rants/Raves: Rant - I have zero strong feelings about a name for this baby. I guess I just haven't hit on the right thing yet, but I feel like I had at least some inkling this far along with DD. Rave - one of my bursts of energy coincided with the desire to organize and declutter, so I managed to clean out and sort DD's closet, the new nursery closet, and my office closet. Having more space is helping generate some good ideas for the layout of the new nursery too
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? DD - especially when she cocks her head and smiles or wants to hold my hand while she eats dinner. Also, especially these days, if DH spontaneously brings me food he knows I like
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: View finder
Upcoming appointments: My anatomy scan was today, next checkup is 8/26
How are you feeling: Good! I need to start going to bed a bit earlier, but that’s on me, not a pregnancy issue ha.
Rants/Raves: Rave - the anatomy scan went super well this morning! Everything looks good and she’s measuring right in track. I have to go back in 6 weeks for another ultrasound because DS was SGA so they want to monitor baby girl’s growth.
Rant - I told them I wanted My next appointment first thing in the morning and apparently that means 7am - oops lol.
Questions: Nope
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? Reading! It’s always my happy place.
@jchpg. I think that is what we are planning. We normally just cook a fancy dinner and a nice dessert. It just felt like we should kick it up a notch for ten years, but realistically pregnant plus covid probably means asleep on the couch early.
I think I will make scallops with asparagus. I am also thinking about a cannoli cheesecake. Never made it before, so we will see what happens. Normally my husband handles dessert, but he has a lot on his hands right now. I also want some garlic bread or something. Just a craving, so we will see what happens by the weekend.
@dobiemom11 I love at home date nights! We usually do a fancy dinner with wine (would be non alcoholic bevy for you obvs) and I always make a dinner playlist and make sure most dishes are done before we sit down to eat so clean up is super easy and I get all dressed up and do my hair and makeup and then we usually have a living room dance that includes our fav songs from our wedding and the last one we had I lit candles all over the bathroom and we took a bath together. Super romantic! I’m actually pretty sure that was the evening that this baby was conceived haha
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: she's 12 ounces today.
Upcoming appointments:
I had my twenty week ultrasound today. Good news, good news, annoying but expected news and slightly bad news. Good news - Baby and I are both doing well. She is still a girl. She is 67th percentile, which is GREAT, and it looks like she does not have my heart issue, but they said 20 weeks is a bit early for a fetal echo, so they said it was "optional" if I wanted to follow up with another in several weeks, they didn't get one corner of the heart, but arent worried based on what they could see. Annoying news - they want me to start on lovenox injections for MY heart. We expected this, it was in my pre-pregnancy plan, but it's annoying, and I was hoping to avoid it since i'm doing better physically. So. Booo. Bad news - I have something called a "velamentous cord insertion" - basically her cord it lightly attached to the side of the placenta instead of where it belongs. This can cause a few different complications, including IUGR (which I am already at risk for because of the HG) BUT - she's 67th percentile now, so it's clearly not an issue. (yet) and it can cause issues in labor - I had thought about trying a VBAC, but a planned C section is looking like what will happen now. Apparently risk factors are prior infertility, reproductive assistance, maternal age (35+) twin pregnancies, obesity, and smoking. I hit all but two (twins and smoking) so even though there was a 1% chance of this happening it also made sense it did.
How are you feeling: A little better - I am usually able to eat one meal a day, and do an ensure shake for breakfast, so not STARVING all the time.
Rants/Raves: Work has been super busy - which is both a rant, and a rave.
Questions: Has anyone else been DX with the cord thing?
GTKY: what never fails to cheer you up? Reading the comments sections on really hilarious amazon reviews - The sugar free gummy bears are a good one.
