No Cry Sleep Solution

The 3 to 6 month board is slow and you guys are pros at this parenting thing, so I thought I would ask you.

We'll be starting to sleep train next month and I'm just trying to educate myself, really. SO is skeptical of the No Cry Sleep Solution, where you pick up and put down as many times as necessary. From our last attempt at training, I can tell CIO just isn't what is going to work with our kiddo.

So, have you tried this method? How long did it take to work? Or did it not work at all?

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the help!

Eta: He'll be 6 months when we start this shabang.

Re: No Cry Sleep Solution

  • I tried this at 7 months with DD. I had limited success with naps and no success with bedtime. We had bedshared prior to sleep training. Every baby is different, so I hope you get better results. I found it very tough. DD would be really upset that I was right there and I didn't pick her up.

In the end Ferber worked better. She cried less when I was not in the room.

  • We used that for my second one and it seriously turned our lives around! CIO was not an option for us (combination of the personalities of our children and the fact that we lived in apartments so I wouldn't put neighbors through that). I started using it for naps and once we got naps under control with it nights became easier without any training at all.

  • I used parts of it as well as the Happiest Baby on the Block. I didn't have much success at nap time, but it worked really well at bed time. Good luck!

  • I liked some of the tips to make my son less dependent on me (and nursing).  We did a form of cry it out at almost five months, just to get to sleep (because that was our issue....he still woke up at night, but it was nurse and down, not hours in my arms).  For us, this worked because he screamed or fussed for less than six minutes on the first day and much less the next.  We were inhibiting him falling to sleep.  No cry would have not worked, as we would have continued to stimulate him as we tried to calm himself.

This! It made me feel better that I tried a no cry method first though.
