Babies: 6 - 9 Months

How to stop nighttime feeding?

My son is going to be 9 months old in 10 days. He usually has a bottle sometime around 2, 3 or 4 in the night.

He doesn't always have a bottle overnight. But definitely 90% of the time. He used to STTN for hours and hours. It stopped around 6 months and it isn't too bad, because I usually only have to get up once.

But I would like it to go back to the way it was! Any suggestions? Advice??

p.s. He sprouted 2 teeth at 7 months and it seems like a 3rd is making it's entrance...

  • I'm having the same issue, was good for the longest time, now its like 2-3 times! i know she is sick right now with a cold, and hates naps, but I'm exhausted!!
  • Have you tried increasing the daily formula/BM intake by 1/2 to 1 oz each?  That may help :)

  • I wouldn't try to wean that feeding. If your DS was waking up just for a paci that is one thing, but if he is waking up and drinking a full bottle that is something else entirely. It seems like he needs it. I'm glad to hear you have been so patient with him and allowing him to eat at night. Some babies just need night feedings in order to thrive! You are lucky he only gets up once though. My daughter gets up about three times a night.

  • At nine months old, your DS does not "need" the extra bottle.  He's become used to it.  With my DS, we started having DH go in at night, with a bottle of water.  DS would drink a little, realize it was only water, fuss for a few minutes, then go back to sleep.  He did this for about four nights, and then was STTN.  People (especially men!) think that only having to get up once a night "Isn't that bad," but it adds up and takes a toll, at least on me.
