Usually when SO is at work I just hang out at home, or go to my sister's house with LO. Yesterday I wanted to do a few things so I dropped him off at work, and took the car. I hardly ever take the baby to the store on my own so I was already nervous.
I met one of my friends, K, at,publix to get a sandwich. I put LO in his stroller, and go inside. Everything goes smoothly, and we head outside. K asks me if I need help getting the baby, and everything in the car. I'm like, "no, no I'm good!" I was trying to hold the car keys in my hand, and put him in the car seat at the same time. I was having a hard time so I threw my purse, and keys in the front seat. I get done with the baby, shut the back door, and it happens...
All of the doors auto lock. Yupp. The safety features locked the doors because the front door was closed, WITH MY BABY INSIDE!!!
I was in super freak out mode. I call my SO, nothing. My sister, nothing. My mom answers, but can't find the spare key i was ten minutes from home. I call AAA, but they can't find my name in their system. By this time LO OS crying because he's just sitting there in the car seat, bored! I'm freaking out more. A lady that noticed me going crazy asked what was wrong. I told her what happened, and she says to call 911.
Fire dept comes just in time for him to get himself to sleep. Since we could see that he was in no distress, he was breathing, sleeping, and it was on the chilly side outside, they didn't feel the need to break into the car. They contacted Pop A Lock to open the door, but I have to pay 45 dollars for it. The firemen told me since it was an emergency, it should be free.
My SO wants me to call Pop A Lock, and try to get them to waive the charge. Either way, I'm just happy my baby is okay. It was so hard to watch him cry himself to sleep, and I couldn't do anything to calm him down. I can't believe I was so stupid. I feel like I'll never take DS out alone ever again.
Thanks for reading this long story. Moral: keep your keys ON you.
Oh, and if it would've been hot outside, I swear I would have just broken the car window. Thankfully it was nice out.
