Shrieking?

in Parenting after a Loss
DD has started to do what I can only describe as shrieking. She's not necessarily mad or in need of anything, she'll just shriek in a really sort of shouty, shrill way. She was doing it over and over again with about a ten second break in between shrieks a few minutes ago, and pushing her head into my chest every time she did it. It was kind of scary. Anyone else experience this? Is this just a new trick? She's a little over 4 months.

    Yup, 4 months is about when DD started shrieking. She wasn't mad, just seemed to enjoy yelling and screaming. I just took it as her exploring her voice and seeing what different sounds she could make.

    Phew. I figured that was all it was, but goodness. All of this hollering.

    I was gonna say it's a fun new phase as well. 

    It gets better too! M's "fun new phase" is in the tub. He thinks it's funny to "accidently" fall over. Then he proceeds to freak out & make things worse. He thinks it's sooo funny to try to drown himself. So not funny.

    I find it particularly fun when we're out and about and he just starts hollering to hear himself make noise. These episodes are what have me leery of a toddler storytime at the library...but I'm gonna face my fears, lol.

    DS does this alllllll the time too! He loves making loud noises just to hear himself lol! He's actually doing it right now! Along with what I'm oing to call fake coughing lol! He does this little cough/giggle type thing, too!!

    That's about when it started for us and has yet to stopalmost 14 months!

    LOL!  I remember the phase well!!!!  DD started at about 5 months, and at 6 months we sold our condo and moved into a temp apartment, where she continued to shriek for another month or 2.  It was great, I'm sure our neighbors LOVED us!  Sounds pretty normal mama!

    My DD has been doing that as well, but seems to be really happy when she does it.  DH was concerned because yeah it can be loud at times, but after a lot of googling, seems to be pretty normal around this age.
