Flipping the crib to the higher side out bought us just a few days before he figured out how to climb out that way, too. That in combination with him fighting bedtime more & more, plus middle of the night wakings, had us finally bite the bullet.
So we bought him a new Cars pillow yesterday & we converted the crib this morning. We had to rearrange things a bit to gate off his humidifier & space heater & we also put a child safety cover on the door knob.
He napped in his big boy bed successfully this afternoon for an hour & he went to sleep tonight with just a minor protest.
FX he makes it through the night without incident!
Re: First night in the toddler bed!
Ugh! Gs been fighting bedtime like crazy but hes been in a regular bed for months now. I was hoping it was just a phase lol.
GL! Let us know how the first night went!
Aw, good luck! We finally got him to spend all night in his bed without coming into our room for the past 3 nights. So my suggestion would be that if at first he wants to come in with you, let him. It's always something you can deal with a little later after he is more comfortable with the bed in general.
@lrn: that worked for us for 2 weeks! We used to shout up "Get down!" when he lifted his leg and he would fall back crying. Then he stopped caring haha!
Ahhhh! Good luck! The nap is a good sign though.
Just an FYI - once they can climb over the crib, they can easily scale the baby gate too. P has very successfully climbed over the one in her door multiple times. Good call on shutting the door, and I hope he doesn't get into the heater & humidifier!!
Thanks, everyone! I also dreaded having to get rid of the crib!
He did ok for the first night, I guess? He woke up about 5 times, a few of those times actually getting out of the bed, but he just kinda stood in the middle of the room. He cried for MH 2 of those times & so MH had to go up & put him back to bed. But at least he didn't freak, asking to come downstairs, nor did he get in to trouble having free reign! So FX it just gets better from here. Ugh, I hate this!
