Re: what type of forward facing car seat did you buy?

  • Firstly, know that you've got a minimum of 6 months of rear facing ahead of you.  LO has to be at least 1 year old AND 20 pounds - both requirements must be met.  However, what you're going to really want to purchase next is a convertible.  This will allow you to continue to rear face your child for quite some time. The new guidelines are to rear face to a minimum of 2 years but ideally until your LO outgrows the height/weight restrictions for rear facing on the seat you purchase.  For that reason, look for seats with higher rear facing height and weight limits so that you can rear face for longer.  While it's not the law, googling internal decapitation should give you a good understanding of the reason it is so strongly encouraged.  GL!

This! DS will be RF for as long as possible. For this reason we got a Graco MySize 70. I also liked that the straps were easy to adjust with no threading.

  • Were looking into getting the Graco Smart Seat or the Britax Marathon. Aiming more towards the Smart Seat. Both have great reviews. I have a friends with each one and they rant and rave about them. I like the smart seat because it looks like it will be the last seat we have to buy.

  • You want to find a convertible car seat that can rear face as long as possible. While the law says 1 year and 20 pounds, the AAP and the Highway Safety board are saying at least 2 years now.

  • We got a Britax Boulevard for DD around 7mo.  We had plenty of time left on her infant seat but she seemed uncomfortable and screamed nonstop in the car.  The new seat has remedied that.

  • We also have an Evenflo Symphony. I don't know if it is a 65 or another one, though. I really liked it, until a couple months ago. We got it for DD1 and I thought she could be in it rearfacing until she was 30# and forward facing until...well, until she was old. Unfortunately, the weight limit for FF in the 5 point harness is only 40#. DD is only 3 1/2 and just reached the 40# limit. We actually bought a new carseat (a Diono Radian) so she could stay in the 5 point harness. She isn't ready for a booster seat yet (and I don't know if it is even legal!)

This. Rear facing is what is safest for the baby. Just because your LO is outgrowing the infant seat doesn't mean you need to switch him to FFing, you just need to purchase a convertible seat and keep it rear facing. We will keep our son rear facing as long as possible simply because its safe. I hate not being able to see his face when I'm driving, but I'd rather have a safe baby than an injured baby (or worse) in an accident.

We are trying to decide which convertible seat to purchase right now. I'm bouncy back and forth between the Clek Foonf and the Combi Coccoro. I'm leaning towards the Combi though because the Clek Foonf is so new I'm afraid there will be some problems to arise that the manufacturers missed with this opening line of them. They seem almost too good to be true. Plus the price of the Combi is great!

  • We bought the Britax Boulevard. It was recommended to us by a few people. We just moved LO into it a few days ago. The nice thing about it is you don't have to remove the car seat and rethread the seatbelt every time your child grows.
