My UO is that I don't like it when people set up Facebook accounts for their babies or pets. If they can't run the page on their own, they don't need one.

    Wait, people do this?

    .

YES people do this.  My weird, annoying coworker has one for both her dogs.  She is not my friend on FB but she sent me a request from both her dogs.  Weirdo!

My UO is that I don't see the point of a diaper bag.  I suppose if we were doing a day trip I would use it but if I go into a store or something I toss two diapers and the wipes in my purse and we're on our way.  I've taken out of my car maybe 3 times since they were born and not at all in the past few months.

This made me laugh because I live for my diaper bag!!  I have EVERYTHING in there.  Obviously diapers and wipes, but also little plastic bags to throw away a dirty diaper.  I have boogie wipes, since both my kids constantly have runny noses. I have books for my ODS and toys for my Feb DD in case we go out to eat. I have a change of clothes for my DD (in case of a blowout) and a change of underwear for my DS (in case of an accident).  I have extra bottles and formula for emergencies.  I have tylenol, advil and band-aids and neosporin for emergencies.  I have granola bars and goldfish, just in case.  I'm sure I have other things, but these are the basics.

Every time I try to clean it out because it's gotten too heavy or full, I can never decide what to get rid of because "I might need that."  I can say with confidence, that I have used or needed every single thing in that bag at one time or another.  Many of the things I have used multiple times.

In all fairness, I can see keeping most of that stuff in a bag in the car, but if I'm at a friends house or at my parents or in a restaurant, I don't want to have to back to the car to get any of those things.

This is us too.  I have everything I could need for SD and DD.  I have a small thing that folds up in my purse that hold diapers and wipes and I can throw a bottle in my purse too if it's a quick run but on a Saturday when we are out and about and usually end up making unplanned stops my diaper bag is my go to.  I have stuff to entertain SD, extra clothes for both, snacks for both, trash bags, medicine, and disinfecting wipes for tables and carts. I don't want to get rid of it anytime soon.  It makes my life much easier when we are on the go as much as we are.

I bet when they're older I'll get more use out of it.  These two are so nosy that when we go to a restaurant or a grocery store I don't need toys because they just want to look at everyone and see how many people they can get to wave to them.  But I'm sure that will change as they get older and I'll have to lug a bunch of stuff around.

  • I agree with the diaper bag post, I keep the fully stocked diaper bag in the car, and never take it out. I have only had to use it once. I hate carrying that huge thing!

I WISH we had snow...lots and lots of it. The coldest it has been here this winter is 50. We are actually traveling to the mountains this weekend just to get to see snow this year. You can bet that I complain ever second that it is 115 in the summer.

My UO: I hate Christmas lights and trees that are up after Christmas, my decorations come down the day after Christmas....oh and the houses that have the lights on past New Years makes me CRAZY.

If you live where it snows, quit complaining. You are an adult and can make decisions, so make the decision to move somewhere warmer. Yes, I know it's a lot easier said than done, especially in this economy, but if you consciously made a choice to buy a house in a location that it snows, for whatever reason, then it's your own dang fault. It's snow, it happens every year, get over it.

I know you've qualified in a subsequent post that you're just feeling a bit stabby today, but I find this comment to be very strange and oddly aggressive for the subject matter.

If I were to move to some place warmer to get away from the 3-4 days per year it snows where I live, I would then complain about the hot summers.  Unless I move to San Diego or LA, I pretty much guarantee you I will complain about the weather at some point during the year.  It has nothing to do with being an adult and making decisions to move some place warmer to avoid the snow.

I would also like to point out that all of my friends and family live near me now, both my DH and I have jobs we like, so to me, it makes absolutely no sense to pick up and move my life hundreds or thousands of miles just because I don't like the snow.  And since it makes no sense for me (emotionally or financially) to move some place warmer, where I will likely not be any happier with the weather, I am going to stay put and continue to bi*ch about the snow because as pretty as it is, it's a huge PITA to drive in!!!

But, that's the point I'm making. For every reason you just stated, where you live is the best place for you to be. So, therefore, you take the bad with the good. So, if you CHOOSE to live in a place where it snows because everything else is perfect, then don't complain about the snow! You made the choice to be there and snow is a part of that package. Maybe it's different for you because it doesn't snow that much, and when people get freak snow (like my IL's in SC do once a year), it's different. But honestly, if you chose to live in a place where it snows for pretty much 4-5 months out of the year, and I have to watch you complain for 4-5 months out of the year because of it, then yeah, I'd really wanna tell you to shut up by the end of the first snow storm. But again, I'm in a mood so I'm going to defend this point with my life. Lol.

I agree with you.  One of my coworkers complains loudly and over and over every single time there is snow in the forecast.  Doesn't matter if it's 1 inch or 3 feet they're predicting, she complains for days.  We live in CT so it's going to snow.  It's only snowed a couple of times here so far and I'm already sick of hearing about it.

On the other hand I complained last year when we had the freak blizzard in October and no one could come to my baby shower and there was massive damage in the state.  Complaining for huge storms or once in a while I don't mind, but snow should be expected in certain areas and not talked about every single time.  Especially if you're in the Northeast and only supposed to get 2 inches or less, that's really nothing for us.

A lot of people keep their Christmas lights up until the epiphany (Jan. 6).  After all, the point of celebrating Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ, so wouldn't you want to continue to celebrate (with lights) until it was determined that Christ was the son of God?

For those who are just too lazy to take them down, I totally agree!

I guess my UO is that I'm really excited about the snow! We didn't get much last year...and the 4 inches that we did get came on the night we went into the hospital to have PJ. It was all melted by the time we got out. So it's been a while since we've had snow.Last night, we bundled PJ up
    and took him out in the snow...he loved it!nbsp;

I was going to say this is the exact same scenario as us and then I remembered you told me that we live near each other. What day was PJ born? It was barely snowing the day we brought DD home Valentine's day but I think it snowed good the night before. By the time we left the hospital it was mostly slush.

This is me. I take that diaper bag with me EVERYWHERE and its always fully stocked. I feel like I never know when I may need extra snacks, books to keep her busy, etc. I even throw it in the car if we're running to Starbucks and back because you just never know. What if we get in an accident and are stuck for awhile? These are the things I think of, lol.

I am quite impressed that you can get by without one, Jen! Especially with two girls! I am already trying to figure out how to carry two bags practically or squeeze twice as much into one when 2 comes!

Honestly, I bet I go out with them much less often then you do.  It's a pain to go out with two.  If I know I am going somewhere that has a cart that will seat two I have no problem going out with two of them, but if not I try not to go out with both of them alone.  Most of the time when we go out with them we're either at a store (where we won't need much stuff) or at my parent's house or my ILs house and we keep both of those places fully stocked with diapers, toys, clothes, etc.  We're hoping to take them to the aquarium next Friday so we'll probably take the diaper bad for that.  I also cheat and just bought a very large purse so I have enough room for a couple of diapers, wipes, two sippy cups and a burp cloth :)

ETA - I think it will actually be tougher to have two kids that will be your kids ages rather then twins.  Twins is really, really tough in the first few months, but now it's easy.  And the great thing is that they wear the same size clothes and use the same stuff so I can toss in one extra outfit and play the odds that they won't both make a mess at the same time!

This might be an UO: I hate when people only have a picture of their child or children for their FB profile picture. I'm not friends with babies on FB, I'm friends with their parents. IMO, if you want a picture of your baby on your profile, you should be in the picture as well.

This UO is courtesy of the recent friend request I got, where I'm guessing that it's someone from HS, but I'm not 100% sure, since the last name is changed and the profile picture is of 2 kids.

Guilty...with no plans to change it!  Maybe if I get a good picture of the two of us I will consider it but I also believe it is my duty to show the entire FB world how adorable Allison is!  Wink

Sorry, I disagree. And I like snow. I like it for about the first half of winter, and I like it when it is not dangerous to drive in. When it is snowing in March or April, and when I am afraid I won't make it home, I am going to complain. I am not going to pick up and move to California because of this, but I can and will state out loud that this snow is definitely an inconvenience. It is not financially feasible that my DH and I would pick up and move for the weather. This suggestion is almost laughable. And I would never leave all of our family just to avoid the snow. And if somehow we ever did move somewhere down south, I'm sure you'd hear me complaining about the heat after some time! I think complaining about the weather is unavoidable. I can understand being annoyed by hearing it all the time, but suggesting I move away from family because I might complain that the snow tacked on an hour to my commute yesterday is ridiculous.

Again, like I said, I get that moving isn't feasible. But, when you bought your house where it is now, wasn't it feasible to move then? I know it's not logical for you to move away from everything, but as an adult you made a decision to live where you do, for whatever reason, so take the bad with the good. Also, I will state again that when it's snowing out of the norm (meaning, snow in March or April or dangerous driving conditions), I understand and shrug it off. But if you complain every time snow is in the forecast, or make you FB status "OMG! IT'Z SNOWIN AGAIN!?!?!?! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I HATE IT HERE" weekly between December and April, yeah, I'll tell you to STFU.

And this isn't just about snow people. This is about people who choose to move to AZ and then complain about the heat. Or the people who chose to move to Seattle but don't like the rain. Like, seriously? Did you not look at the forecast when you decided to move there? Maybe I'm just weird but unless you paid me a million dollars or more, you couldn't make me move somewhere that I wouldn't at least tolerate the weather year around. Which means no AZ for me because I don't do heat.

ETA: And I just realized out of all the controversial things I've said in my almost 2 years on this board, this is the most uproar I've caused and it's over an opinion about weather conditions. Ain't I a bada$$ or what?

  • I just have to say: if you think that you will complain about the weather even if you move to California, you are sorely mistaken. Molly and I can testify that San Diego gets the best weather. 60's in winter and mostly 80's and some 90's in the summer.

But you might complain about the cost of living. We call it the sunshine tax!
