Tiny had a fever for 3 days at about 101-103. He hasn't had a fever since Monday night.
This morning he woke up with a rash on his cheeks. DH thought he slept funny. But now its working down his body. I sent pictures to his pedi (the offices aren't open this week) and I really do not want to take him to the ER.
Our pedi called me back after looking at the pictures and said it looks like either Rubella or Roseola. But thinks its most likely Rubella since its presenting on his face and working down, not his trunk working out.
She said we can use cortisone cream on the rash and since he doesn't have a fever anymore or any other symptoms she doesn't want him going to the ER, since he's already sick.
Both sound like "wait it out" on the rash. Looking for some anecdotal evidence that he'll be totally fine in a couple days.
Re: Anyone's LO have Rubella? or Roseola ?
My oldest had roseola when she was like 18 months. I remember how scary it was because she had such a high fever, up to 104.5. It really scared me with the fever. So I took her down to the ER, and they were not worried. I had asked about seizures that are associated with high fevers and they said that there is really nothing that they do about them. They suspected roseola and gave us the same advice just ride it out. It will last for 4-6 days. Your little one may be cranky if they don't feel well. The rash does go away in about 10 days. Once the rash shows up they are almost over the contagious stage. Hope your little one doesn't pass it on to your other kiddos, but if it happens you will know what to expect. Hope that helps!

Thank you. Yeah Buddy had a fever last week too, his was like 104-105 (but thats normal for him. He doesn't get sick often but when he does he gets SICK) No rash on Buddy at all. His fever broke sunday night.
Basically we've been told to just ride it out and keep him comfy. Not much we can do at this point.
He isn't vaxxed against Rubella yet. Thats a 12 mo shot.
He doesn't seem bothered. I am mostly worried because we were in contact with a pregnant friend just last week and Rubella can have some seriously sh!tty outcomes for pregnant women (fetus)
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Sorry, I was on mobile and couldn't see siggy. For some reason I thought he was older. Theoretically roseola is still much more common than rubella due to herd immunity (or that's the hope/plan, right?), which is why everyone here so far has chimed in with stories of their kids having had roseola. I know theres a pretty broad spectrum for roseola rashes so maybe your older boy did have it with his fever recently? I could only see DD's rash because I was specifically looking for it, it was so faint.
Hopefully your pregnant friend is immune to rubella. They usually do a titer for it with prenatal labs so I would let her know there is a possibility of her being exposed to it so she can check with her OB to be sure.
