I go buy Lopes in real life and nothing grates on my nerves more than someone pronouncing my first name Loren or Laurin.

Mara was one of my top girl choices, and I had a moment of panic that I almost named my daughter something that I had been mispronouncing all along.

:-) It's not that I don't like the name I just don't like having to correct people and I don't like being called the wrong name. In Kindergarten I came home crying because my teacher kept saying my name wrong. My mom told me to tell her how to say it correctly and so my big brave kindergarten self did. She still pronounced it wrong all year and to this day when I run into her she says it wrong...

My name is so common and basically impossible to mispronounce, so I always wanted something more exotic. Part of the reason I was questioning my pronunciation of Mara was because it seemed obvious to me, so when you said it is constantly being butchered I wondered if I was missing something!
It is a beautiful name, though I can are how annoying it would be to have to correct people all the time.
