Re: UO!

  • I like loud flashy kids toys.  I will trade listening to the same song a milllion times for the ability to go pee by myself any day of the week.

ETA: they are a good warning system.  If the toy stops making the noise it's time to go investigate what the kids are doing.

  • I am not into Christmas. I don't like the flashy lights, most Christmas baking has nuts and I hate the forced happiness. Also, I have go spend with DH's siblings and their partners and kids and I am not into that.
I have not enjoyed Christmas since I was little.

  • I have another one: I watch dog whisperer and I never understand how people are surprised that they have problems with dogs who are not walked regularly. I don't get it. I also don't get how they think it is ok not to walk their dogs. I mean if you don't want to walk your pet, get a cat or a hamster.
If you don't have the time, find someone who can do it for you. It's not rocket science. A tired, happy dog has less energy to spend on mischief.

  • I hate the New Year's Resolutioners at the gym. I am dreading them coming in and taking up all the machines and all of the room in the fitness classes from January - March.

It's great if people can actually make a change and become committed to exercising regularly, but the reality is that most of them give up by March.

DH and I want to get a dog, but he's not willing take responsibility of the dog. I grew up with dogs, he did not. I asked him if he would help me walk the dog everyday. He says "that's what fenced yards are for." Um no. We won't be getting a dog any time soon.

I haven't been part of uo lately so I'm sorry if this has been discussed, also it's bound to offend. But why make your child take a picture with Santa if they are upset? I personally don't find it cute or funny.

Winter makes it difficult for us to walk our lab, so DH will throw a ball around to get her running at the least. We will also take her to our local doggy daycare for playtime.

Missy, walking downtown Seattle the other day I totally smelt it in the air.  It's so funny that now it's legal.  I'm personally past that stage in my life right now, however I wouldn't rule it out if we were on vaca or something.  I just can't see myself doing it right now.

Spicy, I agree with you about the backpacks.  Usually the backpacks are stored in the closet, or in a cubby, especially in the younger grades.  Who would have the time to run and grab them?    IDK.

I'm not knocking the religious, but I don't understand why anyone would want to be part of something that blames horrible and unimaginable tragedies on the parents of victims who didn't pray hard enough. I really want to post that. It may well get me de friended by a few, but it might be worth it.

I like my theist friends here on TB, because they're not douches like some. I also realize not all my theist friends think like the video, but don't be surprised if I voice my opinion when you post god in school blah blah Mike Huckabee crap. I found out our school is still saying 'under god' during the pledge of allegiance every morning. I know it's no offense, but it drives me a little batty. We are not one nation under god in our home, but I would be largely accosted if I were to mention it to the school.

I don't know how to clicky from my phone. It's a YouTube video called "Huckabee: Taking God out if schools caused Newtown Mass Murder"

I am tired of people preaching about religion not allowed in schools. It is allowed in certain circumstances. Older kids lean about all religions in school the teacher is not allowed to show favoritism our dislike towards one religion, students are asked to talk about religion to each other, and after school religious groups are allowed.
Prayer is not allowed at large functions such as graduations and games in a manner of 1 speaker talking to the whole crowd. Teachers are not allowed to engage in religious conversations unless the teacher is teaching about the religion. Religion must not be put on a pedestal for the sake of the right to religious freedom of people who do not follow that religion.
So prayer is allowed in school under certain circumstances. The right of prayer has not been taken away completely.
ETA Religion cannot be put on a pedestal by people of influence such as teachers, principles, valedictorians, coaches, ect.
  • I like loud flashy kid toys, too! I do not, however, like that stupid laugh and learn dog. And we have two. The pink one and the one that stands up. And they go off on their own. I'm about to give the motherfruckers to Goodwill. For whatever reason, those dogs just piiss me off.

My UO: I still keep a checkbook register of all expenses. It helps me stay on track, and I always know exactly how much money I have. My DH never did this when he banked alone before we were engaged, and he was constantly overdrawing his account because he'd forget about bills that had been paid, but hadn't come out of the account yet. He hasn't been overdrawn since I took over the money situation in 2006. My friends and coworkers judge me for being so 'old school', but they're the same ones constantly biitching about having no money and being overdrawn on their accounts because they forgot about something that hadn't come out yet and just went with the amount their online banking said they had. I may be old school, but at least I didn't pay 35 dollars for a burger at lunch because I overdrew my account.

    Love that!

What drives me crazy is that people keep coming out with the same quote about asking G-D why he let ___ tragedy happen and his response about being told to get out after every.single.tragedy. as if it was just said.  The way I see it is that this is the same as that abortion slant that we were discussing the other day: it isn't the relevant issue and people are misusing a tragedy to push their own agenda.  Let's talk about gun control, let's talk about helping the mentally ill and let's talk about school security.  THOSE are the issues related to the Newtown shooting.

Did anyone else see this ridiculous article that blames the lack of male aggression in a "feminized environment" for the fact that so many were killed?  Ugh

  • I hate pillow case dresses and a lot of the other "custom" clothes out there for little girls. I "liked" a bunch of WAHM shops for part of a contest and it's crazy what they are charging for some of the crazy looking crap they sell. I don't get the huge bell bottoms on the pants and all the patchwork fabric, it looks like someone threw up on them.
  • I'm not a fan either. The prices are outrageous for dresses that look like feed sacks.

I let my kid sit on Santa's lap and took a picture even though she was crying.

I think people who are using the CT tragedy to push their own agendas should be ashamed of themselves. It is so disrespectful to those who were actually impacted.

I don't like pillowcase dresses either. I also judge myself for paying $40 for DD's first tutu when I know I now can make one in a about 15 minutes for about $5. You know what I judge the people who sell them for that much too.

I know many (most?) people here are against rehoming pets after a kid comes along, but I have a family member who I really wish would rehome their dog.  When they bought the dog the husband planned to take her hunting and the wife used to walk the dog and play with her.  Two kids later however, the dog is mostly forgotten and spends the majority of the day in her kennel.  It breaks my heart.  And while this is the only family the dog knows, I think the temporary pain and confusion at being rehomed would be worth a better life if they'd just give her to someone who'd take care of her.

I'm for people stepping up and doing the right thing for their pets.  If they're not willing to do that, I can't get too mad about rehoming.  As long as they can find something stable, it's probably better for the pet.

  • Just came back from the grocery store, and saw a lady wearing blue flannel pajama pants.  I don't care HOW comfortable you are, you look ridiculous.  Put some freakin' regular pants on.

Lol! We have that walker. I have tried making tutus but halfway through I get frustrated and give up. Plus I can never find anything other than white tulle in the precut rolls and I don't want to have cut a million strips. There's a local lady here who sells them on facebook and I just wait until she has ready made sales and buy them for cheap.

  • For the record, that is her only pillowcase dress. My mom made it....and a matching skirt for her cousin, and a matching tie for her other cousin.

I agree with the bellbottom pants though. One of the names I loved was Matilda Jane. Matilda is SO's great grandma and Jane is my MIL. But I cannot get over the Matilda Jane clothing company. They look like clown clothes. And I have a friend who dresses her ten year old in them and then takes tons of pictures and puts them in a "Matilda Jane Fashion Show" album on her FB.
