Swaddling question

DS hates the swaddle. I've been using Summer Infant swaddles with the Velcro since he wiggles his way out f the blanket swaddle. So, I half swaddle him, nurse him, rock to sleep, or pace the halls bouncing him till he falls asleep, then put him down and finish the swaddle by wrapping his arms. Problem is the darn Velcro is so loud that it wakes him up.

Anyone have this issue? Any swaddled out there without Velcro? Or something crafty I can do to stop the noise?

Thx ladies!!

Re: Swaddling question

  • Sorry I don't have any good advice. DD hates to be swaddled too. I still swaddle with an A&A blanket. She does fight it and get her arms out but not usually until she is waking up. I've tried a couple of times to just let her arms out but she is still a crazy lady with her arms.

  • We had no luck with the velcro swaddles and he wiggled out of the blanket. We went with the sleep sack and it was perfect. We still use it actually. =)

  • We started having that problem with one in the same set up as yours when E got a little too big for it. I've started using the Halo sleep sack. It still has velcro, but I feel like I can get a better swaddle, and the velcro part wraps far enough under that it's mostly underneath him so it makes it just about impossible for him to undo it.

DH also uses receiving blankets and will do a half-swaddle on just his arms. I like the A&A blankets, but when we use them as swaddles, they tend to bunch up around his face which makes me nervous. Of course, if swaddling with a blanket were an occupation I'd be standing in the unemployment line, so I'm probably just doing something wrong.

  • We had to stop swaddling his arms because he now rolls from back to belly but when we did swaddle he would fight it, cry and fuss.  So we would bathe him, do a short massage with calming scented lotion, change him into PJ's, and then swaddle.  I kept to that routine every night and he knew it meant bed time.  He would still fight and fuss when being swaddled sometimes but immediately after swaddling him I would feed him and that seemed to calm him right down.  We now do the same routine but instead of the swaddle we switched to the Halo Sleep Sacks!

The thing about The Miracle Blanket is that on the inside it has these two swatches of fabric that "pin" the arms down and a super long wrap around piece that keeps LO swaddled.

It sounds worse than it is LOL.
