Love this quote from POTUS

"God has called them all home. For those of us who remain, let us find the strength to carry on and make our country worthy of their memory."

(emphasis added)

AMEN!

  • Yes

(and you're making my cry again... it's going to be a long time before I get over this, I think).

  • I'm with you Kle . . . crying in my classroom (luckily, no students with me). I cry every time I think about it. I think that I will be terrified to send Brynn to school. I am also scared for my H and I. We work at the same school. God forbid anything happens here or my children will be orphans. Its sad that I have to even consider that as a teacher.

  • I saw this one floating around on facebook, and it makes me cry every time I read it.

twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"this is heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence reenter this land!"
"may this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"come now my children, let me show you around."
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

  • Gah!  Now I'm crying too...I didn't mean to make you cry ladies!  I was just so proud of that statement...no matter your feelings toward Obama, I think we can all get behind that line.

  • I've been trying to avoid most of the news reports about this, choosing to send positive and peaceful vibrations out (holy shizz, maybe i really am a hippie at heart) instead of fearful and sad ones. But I just read Obama's words from yesterday's service, and was moved to tears. Great speech, and OP - great quote to have highlighted.

That is an amazing poem, with the most important part in all caps. Thanks for sharing.

This is beautiful!!!  It makes me remember that sometimes religion isn't there to explain why terrible things happen, but rather to help you cope when they do.

  • H and I went and saw The Hobbit yesterday to get our minds off of things for a few hours and there was a quote that I really liked:

"Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found.  I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay... small acts of kindness and love." - Gandalf

I'm really going to try to keep that in mind - stop and let the person in line it front of me while I'm driving, maybe pay for the person's coffee behind me at D&D, try to be extra patient with the girls when they pull my hair for the thousandth time.  You never know what will make a difference in someone's day, and I hope this is something I remember a month or a year from now.
