I'm sure this question is asked a bit - but I can't find any recent posts so..
Working mom's what is your pump schedule. Here is mine:
7am - nurse
9:45 - Pump - 4oz
12:45 - Pump - 3.5-4oz
3:45 - Pump 3.5-4oz
6 - nurse
8:30 - nurse
10 - nurse (if Lo is awake)
I ask because LO is running through freezer stash!! On those days that she is sleep by 10 I try to add a pump session. At first we were doing well and she was drinking about 12 oz a day, now she is doing 14 - 16 suddenly.
Also, do you guys pump to an oz amount or for a certain time. I usually do 4 oz or 10 minutes which ever comes sooner. Guess I need to add a few minutes.
Re: Working Mom - Schedule
12oz for daycare is not a lot. 14-16 sounds more typical.
I've always used my freezer stash to have enough. I pump on the weekends just once a day.
I would definitely not stop pumping until the milk stops flowing. Otherwise its not enough stimulation to keep your supply high.
I had crazy oversupply at the beginning and was able to pump about 10 oz. per session at work for the first few months (pumping 2x/day). As this began to dwindle and DD was still having close to or over 20 oz. of EBM per day, I added a pumping session in the morning just after nursing her but before leaving for work and another one at night, about 2-3 hours after DD went to bed.
Pumping longer didn't get me anything, adding more sessions and making lactation cookies every once in a while did. Also, stress used to really affect my ability to pump. If I was having a terrible day at work, I would come home with a lot less pumped milk.
I'm copying yours because its very similar to mine
6:30/7am - nurse & pump the rest
9:30 - Pump - 4oz-6
12:30 - Pump - 3.5-4oz
3:30 - Pump 3.5-4oz
6 - nurse (little bit of veggies or fruit) depending on when she ate last
8:00 - nurse
10 and any other time she wakes up - nurse
I feel like she isn't eating that much during the day and maybe thats why she is waking up. She's a tiny little thing but I wish she'd eat a little bit more...but I eat my oatmeal with brewers yeast everyday and take fenugreek and I notice a difference when I forget
6:30am - nurse & pump the other side
10am - pump ~ 6oz
3pm - pump ~ 6oz
6:30pm ~ nurse
She eats 3x while she's at the sitters (from 7am-4:30pm). Her bottles are usually 4.5-5oz each
i pump to 6oz and/or 20-30min.
I think this is your problem. 10 minutes is really not long enough to maintain your supply, and if you need more than 4 oz. per session anyway, you should keep going. You'll probably find that you get another letdown or two.
Here is my schedule:
7 a.m.: Nurse and then pump whichever breast he finished on or didn't take (20 min.)
10 a.m.: Pump at work (20 min.)
1 p.m.: Pump at work (20 min.)
3 p.m.: Pump at work (15 min. as long as I've gotten enough milk already; 20 min if I haven't)
7 p.m.: Nurse
9 p.m.: Pump (20 min.) if I didn't get enough for the next day's bottles. I rarely have to pump at this time.
Zack takes three 4.5 oz bottles at daycare.
