Babies: 6 - 9 Months

EP - supply is fading

My son will be 9 months this week.  I noticed over the past few days my BM supply is slowly decreasing.  I have been EP since he was a few days old and usually get around 36oz per day.  I'm now barely getting 30oz total.  I'd ideally like to keep giving him BM strictly until he's a year old.  Is there anything I can do to boost my supply until then?

  • You should ask the BF board. They are awesome. How about supplements? Oatmeal?

  • Have you replaced the soft parts on your pump recently? They can wear out and get loose, and can impact the amount of milk you are able to pump.
  • Any chance you're getting your period? I EP and just got my first period last week - my supply tanked, and I had to supplement about 6 oz a day from my stash, but now that my period is over it's back to normal.

Also, from what I've read on kellymom, our supplies peak at about 5 months and then starts to decrease - the consistency of bm changes around 6 months, and as they eat more solids, they need less milk.  So if your son is eating solids, he may not need quite as much milk as before.

I second the others of Fenugreek, lots of water.  Try some power pumping?  Do you still do a middle of the night pump?
