2 year old needs attention

My 2 year old has been potty trained for 2 months and all of a sudden since LO has came home he's been having accidents multiple times a day. I know it's a cry for attention so I try my hardest to show as much to him as possible without neglecting the baby,  but the accidents are getting out of hand. I don't want to keep disciplining him cause I know he's just having a hard time adjusting to the new baby and my husband doesn't want to revert back to pull-ups. Anyone else experiencing this or have suggestions?

Re: 2 year old needs attention

  • My pedi and everyone else warned this would happen, I hope you knew it was coming! Dd now asks for a diaper and refuses to go potty, this it's accident galore over here to. At the one month and 2.5 yr appt we just had the doc suggested a star chart and having multiple stars add up to something good so he has incentive. She also said to not react at all to accidents but praise when he does it right since he doesn't know the difference between positive and negative attention yet. Also, I don't think you are ever supposed to disciples for potty failures, though I'm not the best at potty training. So I would avoid that and just stick with not responding one way or the other when it happens. It's normal, he'll work it out!

  • Thank you for the advice. I'm going to try the star chart and giving him more attention. I read online that I need to have more personal time with him when the baby is napping. So hopefully this will work!
