Am I behind the eight ball?

I haven't started on our nursery yet and my baby shower isnt for another two months. I've seen some posts and both and wonder if I?m extremely behind in my preparations....???

Re: Am I behind the eight ball?

  • I was wondering the same thing! I haven't started on nursery and don't even know when my baby shower is!!
  • Loading the player...
  • Nope. I haven't done diddily either. My big accomplishment was clearing out a little floor space on the wall where all the baby stuff (crib, dresser, bla bla bla) is supposed to go. I have picked out a few of the major items I want (crib, car seat) but haven't done anything about actually procuring said items.

When winter really hits, I will be cooped up inside and have plenty of time to futz with the nursery, I figure.

  • No, I would not say that you are behind at all.  If 2 months from now you still haven't started anything then you can start feeling a little behind. There are a few early birds that are making the rest of us look bad Stick out tongue

  • Eh, it just depends on what your spring looks like before the baby is born. I, for instance, am working every single weekend in February and two in March so I got my nursery done early. If I knew I had more weekends in the spring, I wouldn't have rushed it.

There's no official timeline. I didn't even really finish my son's nursery until he was a few months old. Just as long as you have a car seat and somewhere to let them sleep, you're fine. :)

  • I've only started because I'm a teacher and wanted to take advantage of my holiday break to get it done. However, I have the task of clearing a room filled with years of stuff it's been our "catch all" room and not just being able to work with an already empty space.
  • I will not start anything until AFTER the baby gets here!  In my culture (I am Mohawk) it is considered rude to assume that you will be welcoming a baby until the baby is here!  (It is not 'bad luck' it is RUDE...which seems to be different from other cultures...)

  • No I don't think so. I can't even start on a nursery because we are moving hopefully in the next 30 days, but we really don't know and then we're going back east to spend a few weeks with family then returning home move into a rental for a short time, and hopefully start the house buying process, and THEN crosses fingers move into said house and begin nursery decorating, among other things. Hopefully all this can happen before baby arrives but I think I'll be lucky if it does. I honestly haven't given much thought to a shower with everything else going on.
  • We haven't either.  We have a room painted (we just bought this house in March and knew it would be the nursery) but it's still full of random stuff... and my shower isn't until early March.

  • We haven't started our nursery yet either.  We just completed our registry and ordered our baby furniture (which we didn't realize would take so long so I'm glad we did it now).  We're hoping to start after the holidays.  As for my shower, I have no idea when it will be!  I think as long as you are mostly prepared by your shower, you should be fine.  That way you can put away all your fun gifts! :)

  • nah, i don't think you are. but if it makes you feel better, we won't be able to prepare our nursery until march because our lease is up around that time and we will be moving into a house.

so our baby shower won't be until late march/early April!

  • I'm not going to have a baby shower because I don't like the idea of celebrating something that hasn't actually happened yet. I'd rather have people just come see her once she is born, and if they choose to give her a present, they can do so without all the publicity that goes along with gift-giving at showers, especially when there is a registry so everyone knows how much everyone else spent.

Until the baby is old enough that I won't have to be stumbling half-asleep to feed her every few hours I'm planning to just put up a crib in the corner of my room so I won't have to walk as far in the middle of the night. So yeah, I'm not stressing about nursery preparations yet either.

(In case I seem way too laid back, I should admit that I'm totally freaking out about choosing a name though...)

  • I'll do it after Christmas.  When DH starts a project...he is nonstop until it is finished.  It's exhausting and consumes entire weekends.  Our baby room is currently his office and he will move to a guest bedroom that is currently full of junk.  We have time off after Christmas and that is what we will be doing....nonstop....until finished...

  • Nah, I have done one unfinished coat of paint in the nursery, haven't bought any furniture because of the holidays, and just have a few little pieces of clothing/bibs etc. So I don't think we are "behind". Just taking our time, nothing wrong with that.

  • Not really.  I'm not doing a nursery since my babies stay in the same room as me until at least 6 months, so there is no point.  Plus we are planning on moving in the summer hopefully.  I do have a bunch of stuff already and have a registry but there isn't much on it.  This is #4 and I'm not expecting people to buy a whole lot(my "baby" will be 4!).  Yes my friend has told me she's going to do a baby shower but we haven't set a date or anything yet either.  Probably in the early spring, march probably.  Don't worry about it yet!  Enjoy the holidays.  (:

  • We're not moving until March, so LO won't really have a complete nursery until after she is born. I wouldn't worry too much. You aren't behind!
  • I have no definite baby shower date picked but my sister is aiming for sometime in January because I am not doing any baby shopping until after the baby shower. I don't have a registry and wont be getting one because in my circle... you get what you get, lol and I don't want to wind up with too much of one thing. That way if everyone brings clothes... I'll buy other things.

As far as it goes... I have four newborn onesies, one newborn outfit (shirt and pant set) and two 0-3 month outfits (shirt and pant sets). No baby furniture, no nothing else, just a few clothing items. I am also opting to have the baby in my bedroom for the first several months, so no concern about a nursery but still petrified I'm not going to get everything done.

Still need everything, still need to figure out what to do and how to be a mom. Can't even figure out how to decide on a car seat, plan a wedding, give birth or choose a baby name....   *heavy sigh*  I am worried.

  • Is this your first? It's funny reading posts like this now that I'm due with my second because this time is so different! With my daughter she slept in our room for 8-9 months so having her nursery ready by the time I was 30 weeks pregnant wasn't actually necessary. This time around we are team green so we won't even start the nursery until after the baby is born. No shower this time around so that's not on my radar either. I know I always felt behind but don't let it get to you :)
