As much of you know my first IVF got cancelled this week. They coverted into an IUI for a last ditch effort to salvage what eggs I had produced. I was cancelled, according to my RE, from a lack of response from the drugs. I guess that means I was a poor responder to the long lupron protocol. My RE believes that I am one of a small group of women that is "sensitive" to Lupron. He stated he believes it oversuppressed me. I had around 15 follies to start off with, but very few (only 4) grew to maturity by day so he decided to pull the plug. Has anyone heard of this "sensitivity" to Lupron??? I have been trying to research this, but really can't find much on Mr. google about it.
I will be on a new protocol come february (if this IUI is unsuccessful). He wants to take Lupron out all together, do three weeks of BCPs, and start stimming with follistim and Menupor, with the addition of Ganirelix. Has anyone had success with this protocol? I've read this protocol is used mostly for woman w/ DOR/POF. I asked specifically if he believed I suffered from this and he said absolutely not... so why the protocol? I also read this protocol produces less eggs. Well, agonist protocol I was on didn't produce a substanital amount of eggs so how is a protocol that produces less eggs supposed to help me????
Sorry for the long drawn out saga, but I'm just trying to understand this IVF process. Still upset I got cancelled

Re: Lupron --- Anyone been told it oversuppressed them
I was on a long lupron protocol for my first IVF and we didn't have great results. My E2 rose verrrry slowly and we ended up with 7 eggs but only 3 were mature. My RE thinks I am overly sensitive to lupron and was oversuppressed. We switched to a new RE for IVF #2 (for a variety of reasons) but he agreed and said he probably would've canceled me given my poor response if he had been my doctor then.
We are moving forward with IVF #2 next month with an Estrogen Priming Protocol, which is an aggressive approach. Hopefully this new protocol does toe trick for you and you see an improvement.

I don't think there's anything wrong with trying the antagonist protocol. That one worked for me the first time, but I did respond significantly better with the microdose lupron and a short dose of BCPs this time, and I was15 months older, which at my age, is significant.
It is so hard to say what's best, because it depends on age and dx, both of which are different between us. Also, I never used the long lupron, so I can't speak to the effects of that on my cycle. Did you discuss microdose lupron as an option? I would think if you did a shorter dose of BCPs with that, any oversuppression issues might be averted.
