Baby Still Head Up?

At my last check-up (32 weeks), the baby was still head up. She is kind of curled into a "C" shape, with her head near my right rib and her bottom near my left. I think she's been this way for a while and I can tell she's still in the same position. Neither the ultrasound tech nor my doctor seemed concerned, but I have had a couple people tell me if the baby hasn't turned by now, she probably won't! Her weight is estimated at 4 lb. 3 oz. and there is plenty of amniotic fluid.

Any STMs here have a baby that turned late in their first pregnancy? My doctor said to get on all fours before bed every night and rock back and fourth for about 15 minutes in order to try to get her to turn. Has this worked for anyone?

Finally, she said that if the baby doesn't turn by 36 week, there are some other things we can try to do to get her to turn, but she didn't elaborate. Any ideas what this might entail?

Sorry for all the questions! I appreciate any insight or suggestions!

Re: Baby Still Head Up?

  • Im a FTM but a bunch of people have told me the baby has plenty of room to turn before 36 weeks so you still have a good chance. i know one method where they try to turn the baby is literally pushing your stomach which ive heard can be slightly painful but obviously not harmful. Just a thought! I wouldnt worry about it yet.

  • I am 33 weeks and mine LO keeps flipping back and forth.  It's driving me crazy!  I keep doing inversions to get her back to being head down.  My OB doesn't seem concerned either but I do not want her to try and manually turn her as that is suppose to be "uncomfortable".  Go here for tons of info on getting them to flip on your own:  https://spinningbabies.com/

    Good luck!

  • My DD flipped at over 38 weeks. Unfortunately into breech positioning. . They can flip at any time. Plus there is a lot you can do to coax them to turn.

  • My DD is in the exact same position as yours. My first DD was as well - and she turned late, so there is always time.  My OB told me that my LO is on the smaller side and it felt as if there was room to move, so we'll see what happens in a few weeks.  She said they need to turn by 36 weeks.

My options were to have them externally try and rotate her (I read about this and am not interested in it) or schedule the C-section.  If she doesn't move, I will schedule the C-section.  My OB said that before they would do the C-section they would confirm by ultrasound that the baby is still breech.  No big deal.

  • PS - my OB told me to try, at least 3 times a day, to get myself into a position on the ground where I kneel and lean forward - she told me it was the same position you would see when a Muslim man or woman prays.  She said this might help encourage the baby to flip!

  • Spinningbabies dot com. The natural birth board mamas seem to speak very highly of it. Actually, there are some good posts about baby positioning on that board that would be helpful to anyone, whether they're going natural or not.

  • I just had my 30 week and my baby is in the exact same breech and "C" shaped position. Doc said there's still plenty of time for him to flip on his own.
