Pregnant after 35

good check up today

I am smug.

I started this pregnancy at my highest weight ever.   Doc did not want me gaining much weight at all.  I lost about 30 pounds due to morning sickness and I am still below pre-PG weight.  Doc today said I am doing an awesome job with my weight and I think she realized that I am a healthy size 18 (and 5'10") woman.  No issues with BP, GD, or edema and the baby is doing great.  Healthy can be a little on the fluffy side - especially when you come from sturdy German and Norwegian stock!  :)

Re: good check up today

  • Hey-- at 5'10", a size 18 is really a size 14-16! I have a friend who is 6 feet tall and she and I wore the same size 16 pants-- but she was skinny as a rail and I was built to work in the fields (and maybe even pull the plow).

Besides, it's about being fit, not as much about the few extra pounds-- and that's medical fact (I have studies to back it up!). So go you! Be all smug! You deserve it! And heck-- it's good that the morning sickness had a silver lining to it.

Seriously, though, congratulations on having a healthy pregnancy. That's a win-win for everyone!

  • Yes, what Daniele says is true--fit trumps fat. It is far more important to be active and healthy than it is to be skinny. Congrats on your great pregnancy!

  • Good job. I had only gained 6lbs as of last week, as of this morning I've lost 3 of those. I'm jazzed. I started this preg in a snug 18, not quite 20 - I'm so excited about being so much healthier now.

  • Yay for a good check up!
  • That is awesome and an inspiration to me!  I am heavier and I'm doing ok now but I'm worried about high bp, gd, and too much weight gain later on.  Nice to see how healthy you can be even when you don't start out as a skinny mini.

  • That's awesome Gundy! I have always hoped that I would be one of those pregnant women who lost weight when they were pregnant since I have always had some extra padding.

Good for you on actually having that happen!

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • Yea, Gundy!  Way to go!  I'm proud of you for focusing on being healthy.  That's all that matters, not a number on the scale.  You go girl!
