Baby Names

Opinions on girl names

Hello All! My DH and I decided to join team green this pregnancy. Our boy name is set, but we are having a hard time choosing between our two girl names. Hazel Ann Josephine Hazel (nn: Josie) Hazel is my DHs grandma's name, we can't decide if we want to use it for a first or middle name. Would love others opinions on the two names! Thanks!

  • That did not post well at all. Here are the two names: Hazel Ann or Josephine Hazel. Thanks!

  • I'd use Hazel as the MN.
  • Both are so pretty, but I would go with Hazel Ann. I just love Hazel so much - wish DH felt the same. :)
  • I love love love Hazel

I'm not a fan of Josephine at all and everyday I see a new post about it.

  • Love Josephine so that gets my vote, and you still get to use grandma's name as the middle. NN Josie is super cute too.

Glancing at your ticker, if you already have a DS named Marshall, Hazel sounds a bit rhymey/matchy with it, so if you wanted to avoid that I'd definitely go with Josephine.

I guess I never thought of Hazel and Marshall as rhymey/matchy.  Do you think that because they are both two syllables and end in an L?  Interesting, I will have to think about that one! Thanks for your opinion, it is not something I thought of before.

    Thanks everyone!

  • Hazel Ann sounds like a better flow to me. However, Josephine is very pretty.

I really like Josephine but the nickname Josie makes me cringe.

That's funny that you cringe at the name Josie, everyone has their own taste I guess!  I personally do not like "boy" girl names.  So Joey or Jo would be out of the question for me.  For some reason I have always loved Josie, but it is becoming more popular.  Thanks for your feedback!  :)

  • Josephine Hazel!

  • I love Hazel, but it's kind of rhyme-y with Marshall. That being said, I would go with Josephine Hazel.

I agree! I don't see what is so great about Josephine. That said, I LOVE Hazel!!

Yeah, that's definitely a part of it. They aren't spelled the same but the pronunciation is the same at the end, so when you say them together, "Marshall and Hazel", it seems very sing-songy to me. I wish I could say it out loud to you so you'd have a better idea of what I mean, lol!

  • Are the choices Hazel Ann and Josephine Hazel?

I prefer Hazel to Josephine & I love that it's a family name.

Or is the name Hazel Ann Josephine?

    I don't like double MNs.

  • I love both names, but think I like Josephine Hazel a smidge better
