Does anyone still swaddle?

Does anyone else still swaddle their LO for sleep? DS has to be swaddled at night or he flails his arms and wakes up every sleep cycle. Some people say it's no problem to keep him swaddled for a while longer, but I have also heard that at 5 months I shouldn't be doing it anymore...

Re: Does anyone still swaddle?

  • We swaddle here.  I tried to break him of it and he wanted NOTHING to do with it.  I plan on trying again after Christmas/New Years.  We will be doing a lot of traveling and he will be out of his element anyhow.  Ugh, not looking forward to it.

  • we do and our babies are probably too old for it. last night my son's arm came out of the swaddle and he woke up every 5 minutes !!!! it was terrible. I do not know how we are going to break them out of that habit.

  • We swaddle with the Halo swaddle sleep sack.  There has only been one night where he slept unswaddled.  He must have been really tired.  We are going to try to break this over the holiday break because my H and I will be with DS for 11 days straight.  Hopefully we can be done by the new year.

  • Do any of you ladies use a sound machine? I stopped swaddling around 4 months but she would wake up every time she's flail her arms so I used the noise ALL night. I used it to get her asleep in the beginning but then decided to see if I used it all night if she'd stay asleep, she did!

Try using a plug in one because we went through a pack of batteries every 3or so days. Now she doesn't need anything and she still STTN. I hope that helps you guys!
  • We still swaddle and we swaddled my son for a long time too.  It doesn't have to be horrible!

  • We do... Naps and nighttime, it's the only way she'll sleep! She's behind on rolling, so I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it!

  • We still swaddle. And LO is a houdini and breaks out all.the.time and wakes himself up. I recently went to Hancock Fabric and bought a 60x58 in piece of fabric to swaddle him in (he breaks out of halo, swaddleme, and magic sleep suit and woombie didnt work) and that seems to help. But man, I have to swaddle him so tightly and intricately that my husband can't even do it so I am always solo for night wakings.

We actually STOPPED using our sound machine and it helps LO go back to sleep faster after waking. We do, however, have a fan on (not blowing on him) plus his humidifier makes a gurgling sound that is pretty soothing.

  • We still do. I want to break him of it but I just don't think he's ready. We did 1 arm out for naps a couple weeks ago and tried it once at night. His naps got shorter and he woke up 45 min after he went to sleep at night so we went back to the full swaddle. I'm going to try again soon, but we're away from home for the next few weeks and I don't know if I should try while we're away or just wait til we get back home.

  • Merlin sleepsuit absolutely works for DS. I'd hate to be without it.

  • We tried the Magic Sleepsuit. It was a fail but it was also big on her. We'll try again eventually.

She loves being swaddled. She grins when she's all wrapped up like a burrito. Weirdo. It makes her so happy!
