Toddlers: 24 Months+

Toddler pooping habits...gross, sorry!

So it's been a loooong time since I've been on here to post...but I am going crazy!  My 26 month old has started this new habit:

Instead of taking one or 2 big poops during a day, she's now going 6, 7 sometimes 8 times a day, but they're always tiny poops.  Not diarrhea, not hard...just little bits at a time.  I think she's done going and I'll change her and then an hour later (sometimes 10 minutes later), she's gone again!   Her diet hasn't changed, nothing else has changed in her daily routine either.  What gives?  Anyone else go thru this with their toddler?  Is this normal?  We are considering potty training here soon.  Maybe sooner than later?   I'm so sick of changing poopy diapers!!!

Re: Toddler pooping habits...gross, sorry!

  • My guess is that she's constipated.  Their bodies change over time, and even though nothing from the outside has changed (ie- diet, environment, etc) their systems are growing and developing.

Usually, when kids go a little bit at a time, all day long, its because they are going just enough to get past the urge to go.  So even though she's going, she's not letting it all out at once.

My dd battles with constipation, my best friends dd does things similar to your yours.  Constipation in toddlers is really common.

I give my dd 1/4 a teaspoon of miralax a day, to keep things moving along.  This was per my Pedi's recommendation.  I'd suggest calling your pedi to see what they say and what they recommend.

    Good Luck

I also give 1/4 cap full of miralax and have been for about year. She has been pooping every night on the toilet after bath since 10/11 mos.
