Re: Brag Day! Brag Day!!
DD's babysitter got her a magna-doodle and gave it to her last night. She was holding the pen and going at it on the board and then tried to get the pen in her mouth. I was so excited.
Spoke to the PT yesterday who said that we're going to work more on standing in barefeet and to no longer use the orthodic braces!
We had our meeting yesterday to update DD1's IEP. It was so encouraging to hear how well she's doing, and her teacher said several times how proud they are of her.
I never thought I'd be so happy to hear my kid described as "in the middle of the pack" in most ways. AKA, average. I know a lot of people would turn up their noses at average, and at one point I probably would've, too, but damn, from here it feels good.
I got teary.
I swear, I'm going to have to ask for "tissues for mother" to be included in her IEP because I always either end up wet-eyed from happiness or the difficulty of talking about her challenges (the latter is happening less over time).

This brag is a little late as it happend a week or so ago...but I don't think I posted it and it was a pretty huge accomplishment.
DD has always been back and forth about "bath time". When she was an infant she was indifferent to it, never trying to play with toys or really caring that she was in there, but once we switched to the big tub things went south. At one point I was basically having to "hose her off" for lack of better terms, with the shower and she'd spend the entire time trying to climb out of the bath tub, burying her face in my shoulder. There were many nights when even taking her into the bathroom with the water already running would cause anxiety and tears.
Well a couple of weeks ago I started getting in the tub with her. At first it didn't really make a difference, she still didn't want to be in there. A few days into it she warmed up, and stopped protesting, a week ago she started climbing in after I got in, and yes...a few days ago she started climbing in by herself!!!!! She no longer needs Mommy to be in the tub with her. She plays with her toys and loves bathtime now!
Oh, this warmed my heart!

Two Mommies Healing Hearts
After 3-4 weeks of developing, DD has a second word "up" discernible (with the help of gesturing) to myself and my parents and has picked up on the "uh" part of "uh oh" during feeding time unprompted after only 8 days me doing it - and my mom looked so proud (she did not know I was working on it) when she told me.
Olivia Kate is almost 4!
Diagnosed with autism this year and doing great!
I missed Brag Day due to a hellish work day, but I've gone one. Chris was in the kitchen playing with a pan and some tongs (impromptu drums anyone) when the baby crawls over to him and decides that HE wants to play with the same pan. I should note that the baby thinks Chris is the bestest in the whole entire world. Pure adoration. Anyway, he proceeds to grab the pan by the handle and pulls it away from Chris. A mini tug of war ensues and then suddenly Chris looks directly at the baby and pulls the pan back to him and says "no". Baby pulls it back. Chris pulls it back and says "all done". "All done" is what he say to him when he's doing something and it's time to stop.
So what's the brag? He talked TO his little brother. He initiated the dialogue. He wasn't answering a question. He didn't start it with a scream. He wanted his brother to stop it and that's what he attempted to make his brother understand. He will also randomly walk over to his brother and "talk" to him - the baby makes this funny "aayyyyyy" sound and Chris will go over to him all smiles and do that to him - I think he gets a kick out of the babies reaction which is sheer joy.
:-)
yeah!
