I have to put Nat in day care soon :-( The one I am eyeing is perfect - it is not even 2 blocks walk from my house, I can go there to nurse if she doesn't want a bottle, the ladies that work there love their jobs and have been there many years. It seems like a wonderful setup. The only reservation I have is that the cribs are in the same room where the babies play in - it's one big room: cribs, toys and high chairs. I have no idea how N will adjust to that, given that right now she naps in a darkened, quiet room with white noise running. Is this setup typical for a day care center? I haven't looked at many other locations just yet, simply because I love the proximity of this place to my house.

Re: Tell me about your day care center
Mine is an in-home care so the crib is in a different room but every center I have been to is that way. They get used to it and I feel better knowing that she wouldn't be crying for any length of time before they got to her. We use a center for back-up care and it doesn't really bother me...
Given everythign else you mentioned, this is a small thing that LO will get used to and may make naps easier for you on the weekends!
I can't even imagine trying to get multiple babies to sleep at the same time, lol!
I really have nothing useful to say. Just needed to get that out though.
The daycare I work at has a small room that most of the cribs for the small children is in, but it does not have doors on it so it is just slightly darker. All the children over the age of 2 lay on mats on the other side of the room. The lights are turned off and soft music is played plus a fan is run for extra white noise. All kids over the age of 1 nap at the same time, if a child is not napping they can do quiet activites, such as reading, puzzles, etc.
Ava is not there for naps often so she has not adjusted well, but a new baby just started 2 weeks ago (4 months old) and she has already adjusted to being able to sleep during play time.

This is the way our daycare is set up and it works well. She adjusted just fine. It did take her a few days. Now it's great because she will sleep with the lights on, or off - noisy or quiet.
Also, at this age, they are starting to put them on a schedule so our daycare has the lights out from 11:30 - 2 p.m. Usually when I drop off, the kids who arrive really early are all sleeping in their cribs and the ones who arrive later are up having breakfast in the high chairs.
Then they all eat lunch at the same time and then they are all put down for their naps together. Of course they wake up at different times but they don't seem to wake eachother up too much unless one is unusually cranky and loud.
I also go over to nurse at lunchtime and it's the best! Plus it has given me a different viewpoint of the care they provide that other parents don't usually see.
Our is that way, too. Like PPs, they turn the lights off and play quiet music. I brought in Sleep Sheep, and the musical Seahorse (we call him Zorse) and she uses both of those. There are 5 cribs and a few kids on mats, though not all the kids are there all the time.
She adjusted fine. But, to be honest, she takes shorter naps there than she does at home.
This!! Plus Reece will crash in the car on the way home which is around 6pm. So I let him nap until 7pm., give him a small 4 oz bottle when he wakes up, feed him his solids, bath and bed with another bottle which is 8oz by 8:30. Kinda sucks but it works for us.
This is exactly what I'm worried about. They don't do scheduled naps so some may be up and playing while she's trying to sleep. Nat is such an observer that she doesn't sleep unless in the perfect conditions with no distractions, so I feel like she'll just be watching everything going on while in her crib. Maybe I'll get her some bumpers for the crib if they allow it.
Sept07 - Thanks for the mini noise maker suggestion. Maybe that will work for her.
I worried about that. But get this...Coop naps at day care and NOT at home. There are three babies in his room, and they all nap at different times. Pretty much Coop has his own schedule - he naps in the morning after playing and right before lunch. He plays after lunch and naps around 3. The other babies are usually still playing. It also helps him get 1:1 attention because often the other two are asleep and he is awake. His teacher says he plays very very hard with the other babies and wears himself out. So it might not be as bad as you think it will be.
