Rolling and sitting

LO is officially rolling both ways. He started belly to back at 8 weeks and back to belly this week, he's four and a half months old. Now he can't stop doing either haha.

I'm guessing sitting comes before crawling usually? He's starting to sort of tripod sit. And sits if we hold his hips but not balanced yet. Just curious when your LO were able to sit up on their own?

    Yeah, that's definitely what we keep in mind. Kids are so different. It's so fun seeing him develop and explore and stuff.

    My LO is 5 1/2 months, and has been sitting very well, unsupported, for about a week now.  However, she's only rolled belly to back a few times.  It's like she proved she could do it and has no interest in doing it again.  Now it's all about sitting-she gets very annoyed if she's on her back or belly.

    DS started rolling front to back at 3 months and back to front at 4 months. He started tripod sitting at 5 months and sitting unassisted a week later. He was getting his legs and bum up with his toes around 4.5 months, and as his core got stronger he started sitting better. DS easily gets on hands and knees and hands and feet when he's really going for it. He knows to move his knees or his feet while he's holding himself up with his hands, but he hasn't quite figured out to move his hands, too. He usually launches himself forward, collapses, and starts again.

    Anyway, there is a school of thought that you should never put your baby in a position they can't get into or out of on their own. It's called RIE. So if you were following that, they'd actually crawl before sitting, and you wouldn't do tummy time, just when they learn to roll from back to front they'd do it on their own. Obviously we aren't following that, but it's definitely something to think about.

    My LO started sitting up momentarily without support last week.
