XP: Boys Name Opinion

A few weeks ago I posted about the boys name Jake Edward for DS2. Edward is my dad's middle name, so we had always been set on using that until some smart ladies on here brought it to my attention that it is a bit Twilight-esque. That was NOT the intention, so I was wondering what the opinions were on Jake Leo. Leo is my dad's first name, but I had ruled it out, especially with Jake since they both seem so short. What do you all think?

Jake Edward - out because of Twilight?

Jake Leo

Or Jake Andrew (or something else with no family relevance)

  • If you love Jake Edward then go for it. By the time he's 20 people will probably no longer be making the Twilight connection. That being said, do be prepared for comments about it when he's little.

  • I hate that names get ruined by stupid pop culture references. I agree that if you love Jake Edward, use it. I also like Jake Leo, if you decide to go for something else that honors your dad. It's short, but I think it flows well.
  • It seems ridiculous and a shame to me to not honor your father because of a flash-in-the-pan teen movie.
  • Jacob (NN Jake) Leo

  • If you love Edward than use it, you will regret it in however many years when people aren't talking about twilight anymore and honestly, who cares?  Its not like you will be using his middle name all the time.  I like Jake Edward, and I like Jake Leo but think it would sound better as Jacob Leo, not sure if you're planning on that as the full name or not but again, you would be using the first name or nickname anyway.

Yeah, me too.  Edward is a classic.  Everyone thinks that Twilight has affected this name in some way, but if you actually do the research, you find that the popularity of Edward hasn't moved really at all since the books or movies came out.  I don't know what to think of the American population that their first association with Edward is a sparkly vampire and not, oh, the 1,000,000,000 other Edwards in history.

  • I like Jake Edwards a lot

Jake Leo does seem short...I think Jacob Leo would flow a little nicer if you don't mind having Jacob as his first name

  • I love Jake Edward and I also love the meaning behind it.  I wouldn't think of Twilight at all!

  • I like Jake, but not as a stand alone name.  I think using Jacob Edward is just fine and when our children are older no one will relate it back to Twilight
  • I would vote for Jacob Edward or Jacob Andrew with the NN Jake.

I imagine Jacob Edward is probably worse with the Twilight thing, but is it really going to be relevant much longer?

  • Do NOT let Twilight sway you from Edward!  I LOVE that name, it's what my grandfather goes by, and is also my father's middle name, AND I think it sounds very masculine and gentlemanly.  Like people have said, when he is an adult no one will make the connection, and even now, since you want it as a middle name, it won't be a problem!
