Re: Moms' Check-in 12/10

  • 1. How many kids and ages? 1 DD, 11 weeks old

     2. How was your weekend?  Pretty good.  We finally used a gift card a friend got us to a restaurant.  DD did great, but at the very end, she had a blow out diaper that got all in her car seat.  I told DH to sign the receipt and I'd run out to the car to clean her up.  It was all up her back so I grabbed some napkins and tried to race out as fast as I could, but of course everyone wanted to stop and see her as I walked out. Apparently no one noticed, or cared, that I had napkins all over her back and I'm sure it didn't smell so great, haha.

    2. Anything special/endearing/milestone-ish happen lately? DD continues to smile and "talk" a lot.  It's so much fun imitating her noises and having little conversations with her.  Though my mom is far away, she got to hear a lot of the babble on speaker phone the other day which I was pretty happy about.

    3. Any parenting concerns on your heart or mind this week?  Just being the only parent this week while DH is on his business trip.

    5. Question of the Week: How do you manage Christmas gifts for your child? What do you buy him/her/them? Do they get gifts from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc too? Open them to play with all at once? Do you save some gifts to play with later? Since this is her first Christmas, not to mention we are having our second "meet the baby" shower in a couple weeks, DD will be getting a lot from other people.  I don't think DH and I will get her much..maybe if we can think of a good "baby's first Christmas" type gift.  I already know DH bought her an ornament, but he won't let me see it because it's partially a gift for me too.

  • 1. DD, will be 3 in March

    2. Very good, if a little lonely. DH was gone almost all weekend

    3. DD attended her first birthday party. She had so much fun and it was cute to see her march in with her gift for the birthday girl. She also was quite well behaved in our outings, making it a lot of fun to get out and do things together

    4. I wish we could get her 100% potty trained, but I'll settle for 85% right now

    5. We tend to buy stuff for her over the course of the year and stash it in the basement .Then we divide it into a Christmas pile and a birthday pile. The grandparents went WAY overboard over the last couple of years, but I think (hope?) reason is starting to take over. She gets a small gift from each aunt and uncle as well. We do open them all at once, or maybe break them up over a day or 2 if she seems overwhelmed. And MIL is coming on the 26th, so we may hold off on gifts form her until then.

  • Hmm,. can I check in here now? Our boys move in one week from today! :)

    1. How many kids and ages?  2 boys, 23 mos and 4.5

     2. How was your weekend?  Amazing!  Our first overnight, which went really well.  No major meltdowns, and they seemed very comfortable.

    2. Anything special/endearing/milestone-ish happen lately? Big J called us Mommy and Daddy! And we are pretty sure Little J said Da Da

    3. Any parenting concerns on your heart or mind this week? How to help them with the transition, how life-changing it will be for us. How to deal with the inevitable "You're not my mommy".

    5. Question of the Week: How do you manage Christmas gifts for your child? What do you buy him/her/them? Do they get gifts from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc too? Open them to play with all at once? Do you save some gifts to play with later? This will be their first Christmas with us.  We saved some toys from the shower, and will be getting them one small gift each and likely a train table as the "big" gift.

  • 1. One daughter - she's 3

    2. We had a great weekend - put up the tree, went to the dentist and had a good visit, did the usual around-the-house stuff, decorated a bit more

    3. Working on potty training - she's doing really well, except at preschool

     4. Mainly #3!

    5. Well, we haven't really bought much. So far we have a set of Strawberry Shortcake dolls, an ornament from our trip to Disney, and a couple of dress-up costumes. Yes, she'll get gifts from everybody in the family, too. Usually we open everything up. If she was younger and didn't notice, I'd probably tuck a few things away for later in the winter!

  • 1. DS1- 7 years old, DS2- 5 years old

    2. Our weekend was busy but fun. DS1 won a trip to a local "fun park".

    3. DS1 has caught up with all of his peers in school. It has taken a lot of hard work the past two years, but his teacher told me that he was one of her best students!

    4. None this week!

    5. I buy each of my boys a few things from me and a few from Santa. They also get presents from grandparents, uncles, aunts and other friends and family. Great-grandparents and great-uncles and aunts always send money so I will buy them something little from them and the rest goes into college funds.

We open 1 present on Christmas Eve and the rest Christmas morning. I normally pull a few things after they have played with them Christmas day and put them up. I then slowly pull them out. They actually just got out (October) Mario Cart from last Christmas. They had forgotten about it and were so excited!

Mother of two wonderful boys! Blessed through adoption.

  • 1. How many kids and ages? A almost 4, L 18 months

     2. How was your weekend? Long, but good. Tis the season!

    2. Anything special/endearing/milestone-ish happen lately? L is saying more and more sentences. A has always been very verbal and L seems like she is twice as verbal as A was. We are in TROUBLE.

    3. Any parenting concerns on your heart or mind this week? A has the four year old attitude in full swing.

    5. Question of the Week: How do you manage Christmas gifts for your child? What do you buy him/her/them? Do they get gifts from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc too? Open them to play with all at once? Do you save some gifts to play with later?

The only time we really buy our kids toys is for Christmas/birthdays. We kind of go all out for Christmas, as do our families.

  • 1. How many kids and ages?

    One boy - age 2

     2. How was your weekend?

    Wonderful!

    2. Anything special/endearing/milestone-ish happen lately?

First pedi appointment last Friday. It was slightly traumatic but he wanted to be comforted by his mama and papa, which is awesome.

    3. Any parenting concerns on your heart or mind this week?

He's grieving the loss of his caretakers, which is a good thing but it makes me sad that he's sad.

    5. Question of the Week: How do you manage Christmas gifts for your child? What do you buy him/her/them? Do they get gifts from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc too? Open them to play with all at once? Do you save some gifts to play with later?

We're keeping Christmas low key this year. We're not having people over and we're not going anywhere. We want to keep his world small as to not completely overwhelm him. With the exception of the pedi appt, we haven't left the house since getting home and won't for another month or so. It's been wonderful for bonding purposes.

We got him a few small things, grandparents/aunts/uncles got him gifts which they are bringing by. Since this is his first Christmas and he's never really opened presents before, we may do gifts as the day goes on instead of all at once.
