I'm trying to figure out what to do about my camera. I have a Canon Rebel XS. It takes great pictures and I love it, but I hate carrying it around everywhere since it's big and bulky. I need something that I can carry in the diaper bag/purse so that I will actually use it.
I'm planning to do a picture-of-the-day album again this year and I know I won't carry the Rebel everywhere. So my question is: buy a cheap point and shoot to carry every day and only use the Rebel every once in awhile, or sell the Rebel and get a compact system camera (like the Nikon J1 or V1) that I would use all the time. WWYD?
Also, I'd appreciate recommendations for either point and shoots or compact systems! Point and shoot - my max budget would be $150. Compact system - max budget would be about $500 providing I can sell my Rebel.
Re: Cameras: point and shoot vs. dslr vs. compact system
DH has a Rebel that he loves, but he doesn't take it everywhere. He loves his PowerShot SD400IS.
Here's a good deal on a refurbished one: https://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_308504_-1?utm_source=google&utm_medium=Product_Search&utm_campaign=Google_Product_Feed
This is what we do to. I could never get rid in my Nikon DSLR. I drag my DSLR with me for big events, like the zoo, apple picking, Christmas plays. Then my iPhone is used for everything else.
For Christmas (the year I was pregnant) DH bought me a Nikon D5000, lenses, flashes, a tripod and so on. I absolutley love it, but agree, that sometimes I do not feel like lugging around a big camera. Its nice to have something to slip in you back pocket. I ended up going to walmart and getting a fujifilm 14 mp waterproof/shock proof camera for like $130.00 bucks! It shoots HD video just like the Nikon too!
Anyhow, long story short, there are def times where I reach for the NIkon, but trips to something like the amusement/water parks, I def bring the fujifilm in my back pocket! Day to day, I just throw it in my purse so I always have it. Id get a second, cheaper camera.
