Gap v. Old Navy maternity jeans

Edited to fix title.

I know there has been a lot of talk of maternity jeans lately, and I keep going back and forth with which ones to order (neither stores carry them locally, so it has to be an online order).i hate ordering loathes online-I always prefer to try things on before purchasing. I'm also tall, further complicating things.

I hav never been able to wear ON jeans-too big in the waist, too tight in the thighs and generally just fit weird. I have one pair of sweetheart skinnies that (used to) fit ok, but not my favorite. Do you find their maternity jeans fit similar to how ther regular jeans fit you? I really want them to work for me because the price is right.

Gap jeans always it me better than anywhere else, but they are so stinking expensive! (I'm cheap and always shop at the outlet.) if I bite the bullet and spend the money on them, do I buy my pre-pregnancy size? How do they run? I feel like I have huge thighs now, so I'm contemplating going up a size...

I've tried on motherhood jeans, and they were OK on me, so that's an option, just not one that excites me.

Re: Gap v. Old Navy maternity jeans

  • Gap.

Old navy stuff falls apart so quickly! And they have weird elastic bands on their maternity clothes. Gap are definitely worth the investment.

  • I just bought a pair of Gap jeans. I bought them in my regular pre-pregnancy size and actually could have sized down. They are little big in the hips and butt. I like them otherwise.

  • I got one pair Gap and two pair ON. The Gap ones are too short and won't stay tucked in my bootsskinnies and I'm only 5'3". My ON ones I love. The skinnies fit well and are long without being excessive. They're also amazingly comfy. My other ON are regular flares and are super long. I need to get them hemmed because even rolling them they're too long. They too are comfortable. I played softball all my life and have tree trunks for legs, my ON fit better, in fact the one pair of flares are almost a bit baggy. All that being said, I paid the same amount for the two pairs of ON for the one pair of Gap jeans. Also, when I tried to return my jeans to Gap it was a giant PITA and they said they'd send me a return label, two weeks later I gave up and just kept them. HTH in some way lol.

Super helpful. I feel like my tush and thighs are huuuuge, which makes me question going up a size.

YW! They are demi panel sexy boot cut, BTW! I got them in store 25% off, but it looks like they are having 30% off online right now.

  • I'm am 5'6.5" and slim, size two, and have never ever liked ON bottoms on me. They're usually too short and too loose through the leg. Their maternity jeans went with the trend...hated them on me.

I had much more success at Gap. I love that they have long lengths and the fit through the hip/thigh is always slim enough and flattering. My favorite maternity jeans are the Sexy Boot, and they're worth every penny. I ordered my normal size and they lasted the whole pregnancy. Also, I personally hate demi panel and could only wear full panel by 25w or so last time. I felt they stayed up better and demi panels seemed too tight on the waist and pushed on all the wrong spots.

  • I have both, and I have to second that they are a little big in the thigh and butt area, but I figure that is to accommodate the "pregnancy spread" that may happen later on.  I like the Gap pair MUCH, MUCH more than the Old Navy pair.  The ON pair seems to lose it's shape quickly and gets too baggy.

  • Gap.  Now is a great time to buy because there are a lot of everything 30% off sales or 1 item 40% off.  I would suggest trying them on if possible though.  I'm a 4 in many Gap Jeans, but a 6 in skinny jeans.  However, my maternity skinny jeans and my sexy boot are both 4.  The 6s were gigantic (mainly in the butt).

I am really happy with them.  I had IVF bloat, so I was in the demi panels a bit earlier than I expected, but they're still comfy even now that I have an outie belly button.  The full panel are still a little weird if I wear the panel up (though I have when it's been cold), but I can wear them with the panel folded for now.

I feel like I'm wearing MY jeans when I wear them... And that's a great feeling IMO.

I'm so happy to have you on this board - we're practically the exact same size!  I've definitely been leaning toward Gap jeans, but given that I don't expect to show for ages yet, have been holding off.

  • Same here.  I do like them though, tried them on and they don't look like maternity jeans unless my shirt is pulled up.  I think right now they are having 30% off which would help with the price.  But in my opinion worth the price!
