2nd Trimester

Gender Wrong?

On Novemeber 26th just one day shy of 19 weeks i had my gender ultra sounds. My second child is a little girl!! My mother was so excited she was in tears. My oldest is a boy so having a little girl is perfect.

My mother kept asking the tech if she was definatly sure it was a girl because after we got the picture she decided she wanted to cover her parts up lol. The tech said since i was so thin it would be hard to predict wrong. But just recently my fiance has been teasing me that when i go back for another ultra sound on december 26th to look at her heart im gonna be shocked to see that its a boy.

Has anyone else had there gender of their child told wrong? Or am i just being paranoid lol.

Re: Gender Wrong?

  • It happens, obviously... but I've never been told wrong in all of my 5 pregnancies. I've always found out between 15-20 weeks and the tech has always been correct.

I've been told by 3 different techs during 3 different ultrasounds that LO6 is a girl and I don't doubt it one bit. She's pretty proud of her girly bits.. lol.

  • There is always a possibility that it could be wrong. My Mom was told I was a boy. It happens. U/S techs try their best, but they're human. The only time you can really be 100% sure is when they're born.

  • A close friend of mine has 3 children.  Throughout the course of all 3 pregnancies, she was told each was going to be girls.  She now has 3 rambunctious boys in her house.

Granted, I don't think it's as common to get it wrong now as it used to be, it does still happen.

  • It happened with this pregnancy, but we were told super early. We were originally told we were having boy/girl twins, but it turns out they are boy/boy.

  • I heard that if they get it wrong, 9 times out of 10, it is usually mistaking a boy for a girl, and not the other way around.
  • I had a friend that was told girl throughout her entire pregnancy until the day before she delivered, when she was told it was a boy. Talk about panick.

  • Because you're so thin? That doesn't really help predict the sex of the baby. I had my AS with DS at 23 weeks. I was also quite thin if that matters to the story. I was told with 100% certainty that it was a girl. It was the best "hamburger" shot she'd ever seen. This is a veteran tech, so not a recent grad. I didn't believe her because I was sure it was a boy. I had already told people it was a boy, that's how sure I was. Mistakes happen, but after 20 weeks, it is almost unheard of. Lucky me.

At 30 weeks, guess what? Another tech got the best "turtle" shot she'd ever seen.

Chances are, it is a girl, but mistakes happen. When I was pregnant with dd, I made them "prove" it. I had several ultrasounds, and I made them tell me each time, lol. After the fifth tech told me it was a girl,I was confident.

  • I was told at the ER at 18 weeks that LO2 was a girl, 4 days later at my a/s they said boy... I had an elective at 23 weeks and yep still a boy.   My half brother was said to be a girl, but he was 22 yrs ago so technology not as good.
