Low/no VOC paint?

Anyone have experience with this?  What are good brands?  Do they go on as well as normal paint?

Re: Low/no VOC paint?

  • We looked around a lot b/c I really wanted to use this.  I wanted to go with Sherwin Williams but, the prices I received were through the roof and we are painting a whole house so just not realistic. The price quote I received was $40-50 per gallon.

I had heard good things about Freshaire which is sold only at home depot.  The problem is there color selection is very limited - they dont mix like regular paint, they have little packets that they add to the white to make the pre determined colors.  There was not a lot of choices.  I think it was $38 a gallon and they dont have 5 gallon containers either (kind of strange when you think you are trying to reduce the environmental impact)

We ended up with Olympic Premium from Lowe's.  It is far less than either the SW or the Freshaire.  The Olympic was around $25 a gallon and could be mixed in 5 gallon containers.  I havent seen it yet but, my husband has been painting our new house since yesterday afternoon and says it is going on really nicely.  He thinks he can get away with only 1 coat and we chose a pretty dark color.

  • We used FreshAire  and loved it. It was great primer and paint and I am happy to pay the extra for a chemical free home.
