I have a few things about Christmas on my mind this morning...
I get a little sad that Christmas is so materialistic these days. I'm going to work hard to make sure that Aria knows that presents are just a very small part of this holiday. Especially as a Christian, this holiday is about so much more than gifts.
Hubs and I have agreed that we're aren't going to go over-the-top with gifts for Aria (or any future children). We'll buy her one "big" item (which will be from Santa until she knows better), then a few meduim-small things. (<---my sister rolls her eyes at this.)
I just can't get into the Christmas spirit as much when it's 60 degrees outside. Come on, Indiana, give me some snow.
Aria loves Christmas movies, especially the original Roudolph and Frosty ones. I can't wait until she sees the cartoon Grinch. My DVR will be busting at the seams this month.
I'm strange and feel bad getting gifts from anyone besides hubs. I have no logical explanation for this.
I know my SIL and BIL are going to be mad that we didn't spend $$$ on their children. I've tried really hard to care, but I just don't.
I want to love peppermint hot chocolate, it looks and sounds delicious. I don't like minty chocolate anything. (besides Andes mints) I get one every year, just to remind myself that I don't like it.
That's what's on my mind this morning... now, off to think up a good CP for CPW....
Re: Random Christmas-ish Musings...
You should celebrate Festivus. No really, hear me out.
My dad gets gifts for the family, not an individual. Granted, they're goofy things like a bag of cashews or a case of salted nut rolls (candy bars, people, these are candy bars, I swear). One year they got us a 9lb crunch bar. Another year, we got an Atari. There are usually puzzles, too. And board games.
We sit around for a week around Christmas playing games, eating junk, and talking. My MIL's first visit to my parents' house was around this time, and she got the (completely untrue) impression that my parents don't ever watch TV. They do, but during Festivus, we don't turn it on usually.
Of course, we do exchange presents. My mom always tries to make sure that we've got at least something to open, and she usually goes overboard. But my dad tries to remind us that it's not about the gifts. If we take one tradition from my crazy family, I hope it's this one.
This year, each kid is bringing a Festivus gift, instead of gifts to exchange with one another. Speaking of, I really need to buy it still...
I LOVE how this has come up more than once now. So great.
Dude, I TRYYYYYY.... Every year, I try it... every year, I don't like it. I want to like it SO bad. So bad, in fact, that it deserved bold, italics, underline, and caps to convey just how much I want to like it.
I've tried 4 different homemade kinds, McDonald's, and Starbucks.
If it makes any difference, I would fill my house with peppermint hot chocolate candles if I could. I love the smell.
