Tempurpedic mattress

Anyone have a Tempurpedic mattress? My husband and I are thinking about purchasing one. I have been reading about the strong smells and reports of people feeling sick after sleeping on the new bed. Just wondering about the possible danger with the gasses released from the mattress and being pregnant.

Re: Tempurpedic mattress

  • I definitely would not get one while pregnant. My parents bought a tempurpedic mattress cover for our guest room so that they could use it during visits. I can't even open the door the smell is so bad and that was probably 5 months ago. Just my opinion, but I'm also pretty cautious when it comes to things like that.

  • I love mine 10 yrs later. But now that you mention it, it did have a chemical kinda smell at first
  • We have a tempurpedic and the only down fall for me...it gets super hot. The newer ones might get a little better airflow but we bought one about 3 yrs ago and it gets pretty hot most nights.

We have one and the smell dissipated after 24-48 hrs. I don't think the "mattress pad covers" are the same thing. Anyways, we love the mattress and it was definitely worth it. We are actually going to get a queen sized for DD because she is so used to ours, she wants one. We have a mattress cover/ encasement on ours but that could be why we don't feel hot on it? With our old plush mattress, I always woke up drenched when pregnant.

  • I have one! We got ours a year and a half ago, before they had the "cooling" ones with the removable mattress topper. We want that now, of course.
Ours is adjustable and has massaging vibrator features. It was worth the money. It does smell at first and it was hard as rock at first, but totally worth it!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. If we purchased the bed, our thought is we would sleep in the guest room for a few months to let the tempurpedic air out in our room. For those that own one, is the smell so bad it will still make the house smell even with the door closed?
  • Hi, lurking from N14.  We just bought a Tempurpedic and, while it's early to say, we've been very happy with it so far.  The smell is not too bad.  I think the newer ones are supposed to smell less.  We let it air out for three days and haven't had a problem.  I would recommend the cooling mattress pad to help with the heat issues.  We have the king size adjustable (passed on the massage feature because it was an extra few thousand dollars!!) and it's really comfortable.
