If it's part of a baby monitor, it hasn't been shown to reduce SIDS. If it's for TV, kids aren't supposed to watch TV until 2 years or so because it impedes development. So it sounds super stupid to me.
Just saw one in a nursery on the nursery decor board and was a little shocked! My DH said something about it so he could play "educational" videos and the history channel while he is in the crib and I laughed at him!
At first I thought I'd want one in there is to watch tv as I BF. But when I really thought about it, I think I'll want it to be a nice, quiet, peaceful time. The tv glare would be too strong for both of us at 3am!
I refuse to ever have a TV in my child's bedroom til she is a teenager at the earliest. I don't want my DC to get too dependent on a TV to fall asleep for one, and I also don't want them growing up watching TV 24/7. My friend's son is 2 weeks younger than my DD and he has a TV in his room and they have to put it on every night before bed and that is how he falls asleep. I have made it very clear to my DD's grandparents to not ever get her a TV because it will not be put in her bedroom. The playroom yes, the bedroom, no.
I think it's crazy... That said we do have a TV in our baby's room. My husband used to work at Sears and sold TV's and anytime there was a great deal he bought a TV I think we have 5 or 6 TV's... I know it's a bit crazy for a 3 bedroom house but we already had them and DH wanted one in there so I let it go.
When my mom saw our nursery she asked where the tv was!!! ?Not for DC - for her!
I know from when she was watching my niece when she was little, my mom would be glued to the tv watching the sci-fi channel (she doesn't have cable at home). ?I made it clear that if we were having someone watch the baby, I would expect them to be doing things with the baby - not watching tv!?
My parents gave me a tv for my bedroom when I turned 18 (right before I left for college so I could take it with me). I will probably do the same for my children. I don't want to build a "separate" family existance where each member is off doing their own thing at all times.
We don't even have one in our room, so definitely not putting one in the baby's room. I just feel if you want to watch TV, get up and go into the living room. Then again, our house is small and sometimes I wish we could watch separate TVs when we disagree about what to watch.
