Birth Stories

I might have to deliver on my own...

Long story short my DH is in the Army and will be away during most of the pregnancy and probably the due date.  He might be able to make it home but probably not and my family is in Alaska and we just moved to Georgia so I will be completely on my own.  So my question is to you ladies who gave birth alone how did you do it?  Did you have a midwife, a friend or a doula???  What made it easier for you?  I am really looking for a way to have the best delivery possible and would love any advice you can offer!  I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but it seemed like one of the best places!

Thanks soo much!

  • I think you might be better off posting this on one of the parenting boards - good luck!

  • Def get a doula-  also, make arrangements for a friend, family member or someone to be around.  GL!  I hope somehow DH is able to make it home for you!

  • There is a service for this exact situation.  Luckily my DH was only gone during my pregnancy and after our DD was born.

Operation Special Delivery will provide a doula at no cost to you to be there with you in labor.  Please look into it, you shouldn't have to be alone.

  • Definately get a doula.  You will want someone who stays with you and is focused just on you.  I don't know how it would work, but I know some doulas come to your house in early labor before heading to the hospital...maybe they would drive you too?
