my doctor told me about that today. You start in your third trimester and you are supposed to measure how long it takes for the baby to move 6 times. It's better if you lie down on your left side at a time of day when the baby is usually active, for me its right after dinner. It should take longer as you progress because the baby gets bigger and there is less room in there but it shouldn't take longer than one hour.
My OB told me at my 24 week apt. I can start now if I want but by 28 weeks he wants me to start. I have to count and they would like to see 10 counts in an hour BUT if it doesn't happen within that hour then drink water or juice and go for no more than 2 hours. The doctors says that if the baby doesn't move 10 timse in 2 hours to call.

This - I was told to do so at 28 weeks and it can be done any time of the day - when baby is most active. Count 10 kicks in one hour.

My doctor said not to worry about specific kick counts unless I was worried. For the most part if you feel your baby moving regularly through out the day you are good to go.
If you are like me you won't have to worry because the baby won't STOP moving! I'm also 26 weeks and he started going nuts the last couple days.

This. I had asked about it but my doctor said they don't ask patients to do kick counts. She said it would only drive people crazy.
