sweet bedtime snack idea for GD ladies

This bedtime snack has been working for me (my morning sugar levels are pretty good, in the 70s/80s), so I thought I'd share.

I've been mixing about 2 tsps of malt/chocolate ovaltine with skim milk, and warming in the microwave. Sometimes I'll top it with whipped cream (which is only 1 carb). The milk is about 13 carbs, and the ovaltine is 4 or so (I don't use the full serving size). So, it ends up being about 17-18 carbs total and you get a good amt of protein too from the milk.

  • Sounds yummy! Great for "hot chocolate" season too!

  • This sounds yummy!  I do something similar and make a Carnation Instant Breakfast Shake with skim milk for 24 carbs.  I'm not sure if you could warm it up, I suppose you could.

Brown sugar oatmeal is another one, it ends up being about 45 carbs which works well for me because I need something bigger for my night time snack to keep my fasting number down.

I will have to try this, I am very eAsily diet controlled during the day but cannot figure out the trick to good fasting numbers! It sounds tasty too, winwin!
That sounds yummy. If only I could do dairy and not spike. Jjr what are you doing for snack and how long do you fast? I can't do wheat without spiking, and dairy does not work for my night time snack. I know some on the HR board are the same

Have you tried some popcorn with cheese or almonds? That's another one of my bedtime snacks, if I want something savory. I can't do crackers at night, but I can do diary (wierd!).

  • PrivacyWanted: I haven't tried smoothies...I"m always afraid the fruit will send my sugar sky-high. I may try it (w/ protein powder of course!).
