I currently have the BD brand BBT thermometer and I love it. Besides that one, I've tried two others and I hated them. Neither of the other two had a lit up screen and no memory so you'd have no choice but to turn on a light stupidly early (and wake up your DH) so you could see what your temp was and try to remember it or write it down if you were going back to sleep.
DH told me this morning that my thermometer is driving him nuts because it beeps while it's doing its thing and it wakes him up and he has trouble falling back to sleep. I don't know why it is suddenly an issue because I used this same thermometer for an entire year of TTC last time around and it never bothered him before.
His solution is to wrap a piece of tape around where the noise is coming from to quiet it down but I doubt that will work (haven't tried it yet, he only told me this morning that it is bothering him) but I can bet I will end up just buying a new one that doesn't beep for the entire minute or two while it's taking your temp.
So ladies, if you have a thermometer that doesn't beep like crazy but still has a memory and a screen that lights up can you please let me know what brand it is? I don't live in the States so store brand ones like Target or CVS won't do because we don't have those stores and online doesn't ship to Canada (as far as I know).
TIA
Re: Beeping BBT issue
I have the Mabis one from walmart. It only beeps when its finished. Its pretty quiet and only beeps like 4 times.
ETA:::: It doesn't have the light up screen but, it remembers your last temp.
I could part with the light up screen as long as it has a memory. Thanks, I will call Wal Mart here and see if they carry that brand.
You can put your finger over the speaker part when you are taking your temp.
I tried that but it doesn't muffle it nearly at all. That's why I think the whole tape idea isn't going to work and I'll just buy a new one.
And to the PP, I just called Wal Mart and they don't sell any basal thermometers. Charting is really uncommon in my area so they are almost impossible to find. I'll see if I can find the Mabis one online.

This is the one I have.
I hated the beeping too, but the funny thing was when I used one that didn't beep, I would sometimes fall back asleep while temping.
Just a little heads up!
Until you get one that doesn't beep, sometimes I would put the covers over my head too...that seemed to help a bit.
Awesome, thanks.
This is exactly what I do, works pretty well - I just plunk my temp into the phone app and then go back to sleep. I'm in Canada as well, and my Walmart doesn't carry BBT therms either, so I'm unfortunately just using a regular baby one while waiting for the Mabis I ordered from Amazon.ca.

All ALers welcome!
I try to do this.. I know the beeping wakes SO up sometimes.. and for me it def muffles it
I also have the one from Walmart. To cover up the beep i hold it under the pillow as soon as it goes off. It doesnt have a light...but i just shine my cell phone on it and immediately put my temp into my FF app. Otherwise i'd forget what it was and get confused.
This was my first thought...

PAIF/SAIF Welcome!
Pahaha! Very true. My DH is a heavy sleeper. He actually said "I thought you were going to start temping again"...."um, I do...every morning at 6 am." "really!? I guess im knocked out!"
When we do have a baby...Ill be sure to put the monitor right my HIS side of the bed.
Childless night?! HA!
We have a two year old. And yes, DH gets up with him at night too.
The reason my temping his bothering him is because he works a very demanding job in the military and hardly gets enough sleep to begin with. DS was up 3 times last night alone, and then my thermometer woke him up again.
I had the same issue as you with the beeping. I have a Mabis. What I do is I try to hold my entire hand around the thermometer while I am waiting for it to beep (it really does help muffle the sound) and then as soon as it starts beeping I shove it under my pillow. Once its done I use my iphone to light up the screen and then I enter my temp into the FF app.
Why can't someone invent a vibrating BBT with a light-up screen??
All of this.

TrueBlue, did you read the rest of the thread? I explained the issue more with DH, and DS.
This is what I do, too. DH complained about the beeping at first but he doesn't anymore.
OP I understand why you said you need to change, but I have to agree with Chancie, this is how it would go down in my house.

The only place I've seen that sells BBTs is Shoppers Drug Mart. Rexall might, but haven't checked there. I don't use the Shoppers one, though, so I don't know if it beeps. I do know that it doesn't light up.
When my thermometer beeps, I stuff it under the covers to muffle the sound. When it stops, I just turn it off. The temp is stored until the next time I turn it on, so I just record it later when DH is up too.
