Does Pineapple induce labor?

Have any of you experienced this at all?
I'm having a craving for pineapple, but i'm not sure if I should eat it because it might put me into labor.

Please share your thoughts!

Re: Does Pineapple induce labor?

  • I ate a whole pineapple on Thursday..... still baking. I did get horrible heart burn from it, so maybe don't eat a ton.

  • I love pineapple, infact just made a pineapple smoothie today! I've been eating it for weeks and I'm still pregnant, so I dont think it's induces labor haha.

  • There was a theory online about how it has an enzyme in fresh pineapple that can induce labor (along with in kiwi and mango) and the enzyme isn't found in canned fruit.

Well, the website said it's supposed to soften the cervix to get it ready for labor? I'm not entirely sure of the details.

I've had a ton of craving pineapple lately. I've eaten like 4 cans and a whole fresh one and half a fresh one in the past 2 weeks. It's basically the only thing I really want.

    Enjoy!

  • My sister tried it about a week ago. She's still pregnant.
  • You would have to eat 7 fresh pineapples to get enough of whatever is in them that could possibly stimulate labor.

Yup, kind of right up there with eating enough carrots to turn orange. The amount you would need to eat just isn't reasonable.

ETA: FWIW, pineapple has been my number one craving this entire pregnancy, and all I've gotten is a stomach ache from eating an entire one in one sitting.

Fun fact, my mom turned orange as a baby and the doctor told my grandma to chill out with the carrots.

    This made me laugh.

And yeah, I've heard it takes a lot as well. All I get is heartburn and swollen gums.

  • It's almost all I ate with DD (like 1 pineapple every 2-3 days) and she was full term.

I eat at least one a week, and still pregnant.

  • I think in large amounts unripe pineapple can cause contractions.  I have had a huge pineapple craving lately, and have eaten a whole one in the last 3 days.  No effects.
  • NO!! I eat Pineapple's everyday! Since i was 21 weeks and still no baby lol
  • If that was the case, I'd be a lot less pregnant right now, and Pineapples would have warning stickers on them.

Speaking of which, I need to cut up my pineapple. Blah. I love Pineapple, but cutting it is the most annoying thing in the world.
