Breastfeeding

Cold = tanking supply?

Hi Ladies!  I have a question for you all.  I suddenly came down with a cold on Friday, and I think it's affecting my supply.  I typically fed my almost 5 month old off of one breast at each feeding, and he was satisfied.  However, he's seemed a bit fussy the last day or so, and this last feeding, he emptied both breasts.

I'm not taking any medication because I don't want it to mess with my supply, and I'm trying to drink as much water as possible, although it's not much more than usual, since I just don't feel great.  Any suggestions?  TIA!

  • Stay rested and hydrated. Your supply should bounce back as you get better.

  • Was just coming to ask this! I got my cold Friday night and yesterday I noticed a 1.5 oz drop and so far today I am way behind. (I EP because my baby is in the NICU) Its good to know that my supply should return when I am over my cold. I was about to freak out

  • Yes, illness can temporarily reduce your supply.  Just try to rest and stay hydrated, and try to nurse a little longer and more frequently, and stay away from the cold meds.  :)
