For the past week or so Griff has been rubbing his eyes, almost constantly. At first it seemed to be only after waking up in the morning, during naptime and before bedtime so I thought he was just tired. Now he seems to be doing it all the time. Sometimes the skin around his eyes look red but the actual eyeball looks fine. No discharge. Yesterday his eyes looked a bit puffy and his nose started to run so I gave him Benadryl and I think it helped a little but then the eye scratching started again like an hour later.
I was thinking allergies but to what? My mom has 3 dogs and 1 cat at her house and she comes over a few times a week. Griff is usually fine with dogs and cats but *a very few times* hes gotten a runny nose and itchy eyes from being around them. My mom always washes her hands when she gets to my house but am I supposed to make her change her clothes?? lol What about other people with dogs that come over? And one of those dogs are mine...am I not allowed to get him back (my mil has my other dog, what about her)? =(. My mom would watch Griff everyday at her house when both DH and I worked so its weird to me that these allergies would just pop up, no?
When Griff was allergic eggs and our pedi referred us to an allergist, it took 8 months to see him. What can I do in the meantime? Does this sound like allergies? To the dogs? I don't want to give Benadryl all.the.time either. Anyone deal with this before?
TIA. Sorry tl;dr.
Re: Rubbing eyes tl;dr
I think you can give them something like Children's Zyrtec at this age... I'd call and ask your pediatrician. Do any of you have glasses? Bigger kids (at school) who rub their eyes a lot are usually refered for eyesight testing at the nurse.
Eek...I hope he doesn't have eyesight issues but I do wear glasses. I'll probably call the nurses hotline or pedi about Zyrtec. Thanks for the ideas!

Crap. Is Zyrtec only in the states? I guess if I can't find it I'll ask the pharmacist.
