June 2012 Moms

really ticked off

So we finally closed on our house and wanted to paint 2 of the rooms before they delivered our furniture and house hold goods on Monday.

This whole painting experience has been a total nightmare! First the FIL argues saying we only need one can for each room....NO we need 2 for 1 of the rooms because it's a dark color and needs 2 coats.

Then before we even get started....it was me, MIL, FIL, and DH.....they insist I take care of DS while they paint....ya DH and MIL have 0 painting experience and I have 4 years experience.....good choice there gang!

As were are prepping I say to lay plastic on the WHOLE floor and guess what they DID NOT do!? Ya paint got on the NEW carpet and they say I am over re acting...did I mention it's a Sangria color paint on white carpet? Not cool at all.

THEN they finally finish the 1st room which looked horrible and it still needs 1 more coat tomorrow. You cand see the roller lines...FIL blames it on "cheap paint". This paint was anything but cheap.

Last but not least we still has DS's room to paint blue and they wanted to roll the middle tonight and cut the corners tomorrow. I have told DH at least a dozen time you HAVE to cut the corners first then roll the middle. Well what do you think I catch him doing when I walk in the room? Yup that's right rolling the middle first!

I got so pissed I ended up going into an empty room with DS and crying. We are 100 percent for sure going to have to now hire someone professionally to re paint the rooms all because they can't listen to someone who actually has experience! Ughhhh thanks for letting me vent.

  • What a horrible and frustrating waste of time!! GAH. I feel for you. Often it is so much better to just do things yourself! I'm hoping that in the end it will all get done and look great and you'll forget all about wanting to scream.

I already emailed a professional company for a quote and explained the situation. Still waiting on a reply back. DS's room was such a disaster! All 3 of them decided they were each going to paint their own wall....they should have been doing ONE wall at a time.....and they ended up running out of paint! So now there is 1 complete wall and 3 in complete walls. If they had done it right 2 of the walls would have been completely done.

Ugh what a nightmare. I broke down into tears on the ride home...thank god the in laws had their own car....I expressed how bad I thought it looked and how our sons beautiful brand new furniture was going to look cheap because of the paint job. He agreed the day was a disaster and would pay for professionals to fix it. I was at least happy he said that. I am hoping they can fix this mess sometime this week. Here's to hoping!

  • Awww Sorry to hear about this. I understand your frustration. We've recently, as of 1 week and 2 days, pcs'ed to a town where we know almost nobody. We were suppose to get 20 hours of Childcare paid for by the AF, but NOBODY on their list has room for infants. We too bought a house. I haven't even had time to buy paint yet. We move out of our hotel tomorrow and get to live in an empty and partially dirty home. To top it off, I was offered a job and start next Monday.

Hold in there. Things will work out.

  • Ugh..I feel for you.  I once had someone help paint my bathroom. They painted right over the fixtures that hold the shower curtain rod up, on purpose.  In addition, they didn't mix the paint.  It left streaks of different colors.  It was a nightmare. I hope things turn out better for you.  I understand why your upset. That's annoying.

  • This would have more than ticked me off. Our whole house had to be gutted and every surface was Kilzed or painted including ceilings and floors. The rooms I had "help" in, I redid later anyways. FWIW, in the future if you get paint on the carpet immediately spray it with original Windex. Really saturate it then press paper towel on it. Idk why it works but I just happened to stumble on it when I spilled a red paint on mauve carpet.
  • I've tried Dawn dish soap with success, but only directly after the spill.  You never know, it could be worth a try.

  • What about peroxide on the stain?
