August 2012 Moms

One of these days my LO might get on a schedule.

From 5-11 weeks we had a GREAT schedule. Then out the door it went. We go anywhere from him waking up 1 a night to 6 times a night.  No naps to 4 naps. He is currently "napping" since 4:45. Most nights he goes to bed between 6:30 - 7:30.

STM help me out- what should/ can I do?

Even better- what does your day look like schedule wise.

  • We are the same exact way, only it just recently happened to us. Out the window went his 8pm to 6am night time sleep and his consistent naps. Now, he gets up once or twice a night, then STTN the next night...naps one day beautifully, fights them all day the next.

You're not alone! I gave up trying to schedule him. We just do whatever he wants to do now and it's a lot less stressful.

  • So should I just let him sleep then? What do you do if S wants to "go to bed " at 5?

Then he goes to bed at 5. I try to have SO avoid it because I'm off of work at midnight and if he goes down at 5, he'll get up around 1am when I finally get into bed. So we try to keep his bedtime between 7 and 8 and most days, it works, but there have been a few days where he has gone down between 5 and 6. I would rather let him sleep than wake him up and deal with an overtired child. You know what they say...never wake a sleeping baby!

  • I think you have to just roll with it.  Eventually LO will get back on a schedule.  Sometimes there are just hiccups in the road.

  • It's up to you but I usually won't let Addy sleep past 5 for her long nap. She might need a ten min refresher around 630 but she's always in bed by 8. Her naps are usually one or two short naps in the morning and one long nap in the afternoon. Sometimes five hours. Then like I said before after five she can usually stay up til 8 but sometimes needs a little nap or her last bottle at 7 and bedtime at 730. What does he do if you wake him up?

  • It's hard when they change it up on you! My advice is to not really count on anything too consistent until 6 months. You can definitely encourage a routine/certain times but babies are, as you can tell, really just going to do their own thing. Lots of internal rhythms are still being established for them.
