Intro and XP Car Seat Question

Hello ladies!  Very late intro here.  I've lurked on here from time to time and posted occasionally, but I figured it was about time to come out of the woodwork.  I'm a first time mom with a little girl that turned 10 weeks old yesterday.

I also posted this on the 0-3 month board.  Does anyone have any tips for a baby that seems to hate her car seat?  My daughter is 10 weeks, and seems to hate her car seat anymore.  We've tried adjusting the straps, giving her a toy, leaving right after she's eaten, leaving when she's awake, and leaving when she's tired.  We've got sunshades on the windows, so I don't think that's the problem (besides, she has just as much of a problem at night).  Sometimes she'll fall asleep for a while, but for the most part she fusses and it escalates into screaming bloody murder.  We've tried turning up static on the radio and playing some Rockabye Baby CDs, but both seem to be losing their effectiveness.  I'm really getting kind of worried about this because we have to take a long car trip around Christmas (15 hours, but we'll most likely break it up over two days).  It's not going to be good for her or for us to get so worked up on the trip.  Thanks!

Re: Intro and XP Car Seat Question

  • can someone sit in the backseat with her on the long trip?

have you tried talking to her or singing to her so she can hear your voice?

depending on where you live can you roll the windows down a little bit?

  • My first was a baby bucket hater. He would scream from the second we buckled him in until he puked and the he would scream until we took him out.

I think the angle really bothered his reflux.

Switching to a convertible really did help. He still wasn't a huge car fan but it was better.

Maybe give it a shot for your road trip.

  • Thank you for the suggestions.  I've tried talking and singing to her to no avail.  We can roll down the windows here, but not where we're going... it will most likely be too cold.  We do have a convertible seat also, so we can try that to see if it makes a difference.  Otherwise, maybe the answer is just for the non-driver to sit in the back with her.

  • I've always got to make sure my LO has a blanket tucked in nice and snug around his arms to make him happy.  He really likes to be swaddled, so I assume that's why.  Usually if he "breaks out" of the blanket, he'll start fussing again.
