How many of you take advantage of the "expectant mom" parking spots?? Everytime we go somewhere, my H is like "c'mon, we can park here now!!" I say no coz I don't feel like I'm big enough to take advantage of it yet.
You??

I haven't actually done it yet but I think it depends on which store. If I'm at a baby store, i'm probably not going to take advantage until i'm like pushing delivery. I used to work at Babies R Us and some of those poor moms come waddling accross the parking lot and are winded until they get to the doors.
But our mall has expectant mother parking in the lower lot, which never gets too full as it is. I plan on using that this winter
I use them in the winter too... not worth risking a fall on ice. That said, I started showing at 10 weeks because I am so short waisted. People wouldn't think anything of it if they saw me using them at this point. That said, if there are only a few spots I will usually let someone else have them if I'm feeling up to a little walk.

I think they're lame. If I'm healthy enough to be going shopping, I'm healthy enough to walk my ass through a parking lot.
I think new moms and moms with small children need special parking way more.
we have 2 different kinds. there is expectant moms and moms with kids parking

I agree.
Although, I did use it once when pg the last time. I think I was 8 or 9 months, middle of winter. and Best Buy was pretty empty. I do think it strange that Best Buy has expectant mom parking.

I am not far along yet but there are times I have a lot of pain and trouble walking any distance and It's always difficult standing for more than 10 minutes. Sometimes I need to shop because if I don't it isn't going to do itself. Yes I will use those spots because sometimes a pregnant woman might need them as much as a woman with a small baby.
Just saying that sometimes we shop not because we want to but because we have to.
I am from the US, now living in Canada. In the US I only would see them at Babies R Us. In Canada they are everywhere you go. Since they are there I use them. I am 6 months pregnant toting my 18 month old. I don't feel bad...it is not like I am using a handicap person's parking spot.
I would totally use them if I saw them, but that doesn't exist in NYC. Going to LI this weekend, maybe I can find one. I walk a ton in NY so it is not the walking, just the idea of getting to use one and really be expecting is kind of fun to me! Maybe more so because I don't have them?
I use them now, it's freezing here, and I always have DS with me. I don't want to walk the extra distance freezing both our butts off. If the weather was nice, I wouldn't mind the walk.

Agreed. There are definitely times in late pregnancy when I had to go to the grocery store and was overcome with lightning vagina or something and would've happily taken a close spot if it was offered. But, for the most part, I think they're unnecessary and like someone else said, I'll generally leave them open for someone who may need it more. I don't fault anyone for using them, that's what they're there for.
But I still think special parking for new moms and moms with kids is way more necessary and I wish more places had it.

I'm in Canada too. You'll notice many places have also added carpool spots as well. (at least where I live)
EDIT I do want to add, on days I feel great we will usually park in the spot farthest from the entrance because we hate fighting for the "good" spots. In fact sometimes I'm dropped off at the entrance and whomever drives me will park far away. Best of both.
I normally try to park as close to a cart return as I can get so it's easier to walk back to the car with a toddler. There never seems to be a cart return near the those parking spots, so I really don't use them.
It depends...if one happens to be available and DS is with me, then yes I do. If it's just me, I don't use one I park wherever there's an available spot.
They have them at Wal-Mart here in Colorado but only close to one of the door openings (by the grocery side). They fortunately also have a cart return near by. I have only had to use it once or twice when it was pretty cold out and I was only running in for a few things.
My husband does this every single time it is available! And I don't look that pregnant yet! I tell nim no, but he is always driving so he just does it anyways. lol. It's cute that he is excited though!
But seriously, the first time I was like 10 weeks prego. No bump or anything at the time.

This is how i feel. I never used them while I was pregnant, but every once in a while, especially if it's cold or raining, I'll use the ones for mothers with small children.
I don't think I ever used the expectant mothers spot, but I did use the spot for people with young children when we went to BJs. I love those when the little ones can't walk and it's so cold you just want to get them inside.
I have once during this PG. Part of it, I always complain, is it's stupid to me that expectant moms get special parking. Unless you are on bedrest (and shouldn't be out anyway) or you are actually going into labor, you can walk a bit farther without any problem. I think it should be Mom and Tot parking, because believe me, wrangling a kid or dodging cars with a stroller is way harder than just shuffling my fat self across the street.
Oh and we don't have any "family parking" anywhere here in CA. I would love and use that. The only place I've even seen the Expectant Mom parking is at BRU anyway.
It depends...if one happens to be available and DS is with me, then yes I do. If it's just me, I don't use one I park wherever there's an available spot.
This exactly. I won't use it if I'm by myself, but if I have DS with me and I can, then I will.
I used the expectant mom parking at BRU once when I was pregnant with DS, just because I was so excited to be "expecting", but I haven't used it this pregnancy. We are living in the UK right now and the base only has expectant mom parking at the BX, and it's only like 2 or 3 spaces. They are usually always taken because TONS of spouses are pregnant here. A guy we know made a comment that overseas wives have nothing better to do than make babies and take care of them
"You don't marry someone you can live with, you marry the one person you can't live without."
I didn't at all last pregnancy. This time I have already used one once... bc it was freezing cold, i had DD with me, we were visiting a friend at a HUGE hospital, and couldn't find any other spots relatively close to the entrance. And there were 2 other PG spots open, so I didn't feel bad taking the last one.
Unless we go back to that hospital to visit again (my friend had her baby girl at 29 weeks... doing well so far...) I don't forsee myself using one again.

Same for me. I haven't seen any expectant mother or family parking in TX, except for BRU.
In VA, I have seen it only at BRU. Now that I'm in butthole NV, I have not seen it at all. I will take advantage when I see it though, but if it's taken oh well. I'm an avid walker.
I tend to only be able to shop at night, and by then I waddle from the car to the store or mall, so if there are no other spaces available close to the doors, then I do use it. It's a spot for "Expecting mothers & young families", that's what it's called over here.

New mom parking would be more appropriate... pregnancy shouldn't limit you, unless your on activity restriction obviously

I thought usually at a hospital the expectant mom parking means moms in labor, I guess at least at my hospital that's what they mean. Haha.
DH and I have used it only once, last week. Depending on possible hellacious winter weather conditions, or how I'm feeling or how busy Wegmans is, I may or may not use it again. Who knows. I wouldnt ever make it a point to seek it out. I just go about my outings and parking as normal.
I don't see anything wrong or lazy about it though. It's a thoughtful gesture and courtesy that whatever said store is providing.
We see them here at BRU, Wegmans and Buy Buy Baby.

Because I'm lazy, not because I'm pregnant. It's the same reason I go to the grocery store that takes my groceries to my car for me.
Agree!
