Trouble TTC

blonde testing moment: fail

Now that we know we're going to be doing our first IUI next month, I want to get back into testing for ovulation every month (I gave up a few months ago when we weren't getting pregnant because I'm VERY regular and thought maybe that would help me relax). So this month with a pending IUI next month, I started testing for ovulation again and every single day this week when at minimum a light pink line should have shown up it's been stark white - which I've been worried about. This morning (after 5 days of testing) I finally realize I'm pulling from the pink strips (pregnancy tests) not the blue strips (ovulation tests). UGH. FAIL, but also somewhat comical :)
Not preventing since Oct. 2011.
Me: All things check out so far DH: MFI (VERY low sperm count, low motility, low morph)

  • If you're going to be doing IUI, you'll be monitored (or should be). I'm not sure why you'd waste time with OPKs, personally.

    This.

Unless you are only testing right before trigger to make sure you don't miss your surge in that couple days before.

I was just doing it this month again to get a better predictor of when I'll be ovulating next month for IUI planning purposes. I'm usually very regular but I haven't been paying as much attention the past few months. Right now it's looking like my next ovulation day will be Christmas Day, and I was hoping if I figured out this month exactly when I ovulated it might shift that around and I wouldn't worry as much!

  • Aw d'oh! At least you didn't pull an OPK when testing for BFP and see a faint line... that'd be horrible!

FWIW, when we do natural cycle IUIs my doc allows me to use OPKs rather than monitor/trigger. I too have pretty standard cycles (though this cycle I O'd on CD 12, which I caught in time because I had ewcm and started testing early). If you are on meds though I would suggest being monitored for sure, as that's a lot of money to be putting up against the reliability of OPKs.

  • I agree! I'm not on any meds yet, I will be though on Day 2 of my next cycle, then I will be monitored!
