I just realized someone (and by someone I mean my toddler) wrote all over my gray jeans in bright blue ink pen. I haven't even worn these jeans in months so I have no idea when or how it happened.
This is what I get for dressing for work in the dark.
I seriously hope that the lady/troll yesterday that was talking about mixing flour into her baby's formula was MUD. It physically pains me to think of a little baby not getting enough to eat... I wish I had the funds and resources to scoop up all hungry kids and feed them. Kids going hungry is the most devastating thing to me.
A lady in front of me at Publix had her two kids with her yesterday. She was checking out and her total was like $75. I guess she only have $60 in cash, and kept trying to put things back and make it work. I freaked out that her kids wouldn't be getting food because she couldn't pay for it. So I paid for her entire purchase. DH asked when I got home how I spent over $125 at freaking Publix on a random Thursday grocery run (we usually do big grocery trips on the weekend), and I told him about the lady. He told me I probably got played. I hope I didn't, but I don't really care.
I hope you didn't get played too because that is really great of you.
My FFFC: I owed thousands of dollars for DS's birth, along with NICU/ICU for us both after he was born. I never paid a penny of it because I ended up filing for bankruptcy.
One more: I've been using Pantene shampoo & conditioner for the past two weeks even though I know it's crap for your hair & my sister (a stylist) is gonna be pissed at me for using it when I see her next. She can always tell.
So how does the market change to make it fair for consumers and producers?
Hold on. Let me pull the magic answer of out my purse.
Nice deflection with a tad bit of snark. :P
I am not asking for the magic answer that spews puppies and rainbows out of the gas pump.
You have an opinion that oil/gas practices are done poorly and greedily. So what are some of your ideas to change it? Just curious for your opinion on how to change it.

There are more times and than not that I don't return the cart to the goddamn corral. I try to park near the corral, or at close to the store as possible, but if I'm alone with DS, parked out in bumfuck, I will usually leave the cart next to my car. Also, if it's raining or freezing, I will leave the cart. Essentially the stars have to align for that thing to get returned.
You just made my list. I find this one of the most selfish and *** things that someone can do. And lazy. Nothing personal, though. It's just a huge pet peeve. Huge.
But I still love ya.
You do realize that some stores have specific people to collect carts. Therefore if "selfish" people didn't leave their cart in the parking lot, they would not have a job.

Are you one of those assholes who lets their kids throw shiit all over the floor at restaurants and say "oh, they pay people to clean that shiit up. Later!" and roll out?
Same concept. Technically, yes... they have someone who does all of that. But it doesn't make you less of an assshole.

Agree!
When I was a server and parents would let their kids play with the sugar caddies and suck the salt and pepper shakers I would have to restock all of that shiit. Yes, it was my job but why make someone's job harder?!?!
Just put the damn buggy back.

No, I'm actually the complete opposite. I am a complete neat freak, to the point of being ocd about it. I also return the carts to the proper location. I was just trying to make a point that they hire people specifically for that job. I don't look at people being selfish if they don't return the cart- that's a little nuts.

This will probably get me flamed but I need to get it off my chest :
My 10 y/o is annoying. She really, really gets on my nerves. She's a complete drama llama/AW sorry can't think of a more appropriate term and it's exhausting. She's been this way since birth so you would think I'd be used to it by now, but no. Some days I want to ship her off somewhere so I don't have to deal with her. I'm probably the only mom in the world actually looking forward to the sullen teen phase.
On the flip side, she's a really sweet, smart, funny when she's not forcing it kid and I'm blessed to have her... I just wish she'd shut up occasionally.
ETA: I think mobile Bump ate my parentheses so I apologize if that was hard to read.

No. They don't hire someone to simply pull a cart out of a parking space or off the median. You aren't gainfully employing someone by leaving your cart in random places.
My office managers son just got hired last week at Lowe's to do just that- collect carts from the parking lot. He has no other responsibilities at his job, just get carts.

These people are always lousy tippers. You better leave a dollar per item on the floor if you want decent service next time. Making a server bend over is asking for trouble and soggy food is the worst.
My DD is going to her first slumber party (she has only slept out with family). I am slightly nervous and excited for her. I am thinking of getting her a prepaid cell phone so she can call us just in case. The sleep over is at a local bounce house place from 9pm to 8am.
Is the phone too much?
How old is she? Couldn't she just tell one of the adults that she wants to go home & have them call you? I'm sure there will be a phone available. A cell phone is too much, IMO.
Dude, I wish I had an answer. I could make a huge profit from my genius solution. And then I would change my mind about huge oil profits. Cause I am totesa mercinary for hire.
FWIW, I'd hire you.

That was really awesome of you. I doubt you got played. It's not like she asked for your help, right? It sounds like a legitimate situation to me.

Where H worked, a Kroger store, the cashiers were each on cart duty one hour of their shift. H hated it...but what can you do? But if you are one of those that doesn't return carts, at least don't pull them up into a median. Getting them out of there is the biggest PITA I guess.
No. They don't hire someone to simply pull a cart out of a parking space or off the median. You aren't gainfully employing someone by leaving your cart in random places.

Yes... my cousin was hired by Whole Foods for the single and solitary purpose of collecting carts out of the parking lot and returning them to the corral or the store. This has no impact on my cart-returning shizz but there are people whose entire responsibility is to return carts.
It's a hard-enough job just trying to get the properly placed carts from the corrals back to the store.
My step grandmother passed away two days before Thanksgiving. My dog passed away the day before Thanksgiving. I was/am WAYY more upset and sad about the loss of my dog.
Before anyone gets pissy and calls me a homophobe, I'm not. I just don't like to see people making out every time I scroll past something she says. I would also hate 2 straighty's going at it.
DD woke early this morning. The first thing she said to me was "i want chicken nuggets." I gave her a drink of water and laid her down. Then I listened to her mumble about chicken nuggets over the baby monitor for 15 minutes. For the record, she got a big bowl of oatmeal and a banana when she woke up again.
These people are always lousy tippers. You better leave a dollar per item on the floor if you want decent service next time. Making a server bend over is asking for trouble and soggy food is the worst.
Even after I attempt to clean the effing floor myself I leave a huge tip. I always feel like people don't want to see a baby in a restaurant and I feel bad about bringing him there. Meanwhile, he's actually a person too... and we're eating dinner at goddamn 5:30 pm... but I still feel guilty.
Not guilty enough to not go though... so there's that.
This is how it usually goes. People considerate enough to clean it up and feel bad about it are usually the ones considerate enough to leave something extra.
Most kids are well behaved in restaurants. I've never had or overheard people complain. Your kids are not as bad as you think.
My DD is going to her first slumber party (she has only slept out with family). I am slightly nervous and excited for her. I am thinking of getting her a prepaid cell phone so she can call us just in case. The sleep over is at a local bounce house place from 9pm to 8am.

She is 7. She could do that. The cell was just going to be for this. Not for keeps. Just a prepaid with a few minutes.
I really don't think that's necessary, mbenit. Has she mentioned being anything other than excited about it? The phone might be more for a nervous mama, no? ;]
Well, this morning I was running late and my hair wasn't all the way dry when I put it up in the little knot/bun I wear everyday, so I wrapped the scrunchie around it so the ends would dry a little neater, with every intention of removing it before I left the house.
Then my coworker just told me she likes my scrunchie (liar).
I AM MORTIFIED. I wore the scrunchie into Betsy's daycare, chatted with her teacher and some of the moms, wore it into Starbucks where I saw a couple of girls I know from Junior League, etc.
Now I will always be known as the girl who wears scrunchies in public. OMG.
and when you drop DD off at daycare on Monday I bet the teacher and a couple mom's will be rocking the scrunchie's themselves, accidental trendsetting.
Totally. And the coworker too. Wear neon leg warmers on Monday, scout, and see what happens.
I didn't read this entire thread. Who doesn't return their cart to the corral? That bs infuriates me.
Calm down, T. Calm down. We are too riled.
Too late. I'm already pissed. I don't know yet who I should direct my anger at, but it's there, just waiting to be channeled!
this is something that really gets your bp up? Like you want to slam the cart into their car? Or you just see someone doing it & think "well that's annoying"

ELLA... I'm not selfish... I swear... Lazy and whiny about carrying DS's heavy a$s across the entire parking lot perhaps..
How big could your kid possibly be at 10 months old?
I guarantee it's a lot more work to get a cart back with an almost 3/2 year old. If I can manage to do it (and I'm a douche, so there's that) you can too.

That's awesome. Would have been funny to record it for when she's older.
They don't hire specific people to get carts at every store.
I worked at Target they would just send cashiers out. So really when you don't put your cart back and you make it harder/longer for them to return all the carts you are in essence making yourself wait longer in line to check out.
I always try to pick up the stuff DS throws on the floor when we are out to eat, but he can be a tornado. We always tip extra when the kids have made a terrible mess. DH used to be a server and he knows how servers can groan when they see kids seated at one of their tables.
For me it's the opposite. For the most part people with kids tip well. I definitely don't mind a family of 4 racking up a $50+ bill if they're leaving more than $10 for a tip. I work from 6-11 on Fri/Sun nights and I make the bulk of my tips from 6p-8p from families. I've made $50 in an hour solely from being the server in the back of the restaurant taking care of families with kids. I'd rather be sat with a family of 5 than a couple with 2 anyday.
Now if your kid makes a mess and you leave 15%? I wish bad things upon you. LOL
Someone posted last week about their step grandma making them feel like crap basically because they weren't her "real" grandkids. The comment really hit home to me and has made me change my ways. Instead of saying my brother's gf's daughter, I say my niece. I don't remember who the bumpie was, but thanks.
One of my students I tutor had a writing assignment last night. He had to write a letter to Santa telling what he wanted for Christmas. I think the assignment is awful. There are plenty of Muslims, Jews and Zoroastrians in our area. The assignment being about Christmas makes me cringe. I know those students are probably given an alternate assignment, but that makes it even worse.
My kids will be encouraged to write letters to Santa. But if it is a school assignment, you bet your azz I will be having words with their teacher.

I'm hoping for a VBAC this time around and I've been told this is a useful skill postpartum.
Also, according to TB, my 2 y.o. and now my DH, this is perfectly acceptable behaviour.
It is acceptable! Goes the same place as the toliet water!
